    Hi everyone,

Recently I purchased a 2021 Taco Trail edition which comes with the TRD OR wheels and tires. To me, these seem like very nice (valuable) wheels, and I was a bit confused to see them without a locking lug nut.

Have any of you purchased a locking lug nut for each wheel? I couldn't find any threads on this issue

Side note: my '07 Highlander had these stock, so I'm a bit surprised the taco doesn't

Welcome to the forum. I have them on mine as I figure the jack wagon that wants to steal wheels will pick an easier target or have a heart attack working hard to get them off!:infantry: I hate thieves!:curls:

I had the similar line of thinking. I'll probably head to the stealership and see what they have

I've found lug nut locks to be a big annoyance. As the truck ages, and the wheels become less valuable, at some point you might as well take them off.

It seems that a dedicated wheel thief would have ways to easily defeat these locks.

What about them has caused an annoyance?

I have other vehicles that have them and I prefer it, even if it's one extra step to take the wheel off.

I also don't think a theif would spend time trying to figure out my locking lugs as opposed to finding a different vehicle

I think it is more likely that someone would steal the whole truck than the stock wheels.
Unless you are parked in a dark alley, it's doubtful someone will take the time to jack up the truck, remove the wheels, and load them up. Too risky.

Virtually every auto parts outlet sells a "kit" of locking lugnut removal tools........instant burglars tools!

Might be better off buying some solid steel replacement nuts to replace the jacketed Toyota junk.

I purchased the factory locking lug nuts from Toyota on my 2021 TRDOR DCSB, installed at port and they are made by McGard. $29.50 at autozone, so you can save over the $41 dealership cost.

Well I have an actual key which makes the truck harder to steal. I just feel like the wheels shouldn't be that easy to snatch. Any clown with an impact could have them all off in 5 mins

And idk where I'll be parking. Could be a Walmart parking lot, could be a trail parking lot.

The best part of locking lug nuts is when the thin, cheap metal tool breaks and you can't get your flat tire off!

There are pluses and minuses to locking lugs. Some idiot could smash your window to look for the lug key even if you don't keep it in the cab.

    Lol sorry guys,

but locking wheel lug nuts are pointless.... seriously.

This guy is an amateur and makes it look harder than it really is for the "pros"

12 point socket and a hammer is all you need.

Ask yourself this, how many cars have you ever seen in a parking lot up on blocks with no wheels? Take this a step further and how many of those had OE wheels and tires? You are wasting time and money with wheel locks. I can think of two occasions that I have seen anyone with wheels stole. Once was in HS when some girl rolled up in her daddys Chevelle with brand new centerlines and the other was at a shop when a bone headed tech forgot bring in the brand new ZR1 corvette that someone had dropped off for an alignment. Having spent a lot of time in the tire business including my time in the hood, I never had a customer come in looking for new wheels because theirs were stolen. On the other hand, can't count the number of times someone showed up needing tires, but had no idea where the wheel lock key was. We had a standard price of $25 per lock removal charge, so $100 for all for. It never took a tech more than 30 second to get on off. Honestly, they could get them off quicker than it would take trying to determine which flip socket to use on a regular lug nut.

The reality is that wheel locks are huge profit for dealers. That is why you see them on new vehicles. Not for safety, but when you can convince someone to drop $100 for 4 lug nuts and a key that cost you $8, you would want to put them on every car you have.

Your dealer did you a favor by not putting them on.
