Just thought I would share this as it might be helpful for some.

I surf and with my old 2010, I would lock my fob key in the truck and just take the valet key on a length of cord around my neck under my wetsuit. I’d use the valet key to unlock the door after surfing and drive home using the main key.

I was a bit concerned with how I might do this with my new 2021, given the new truck is a push button start and the fob has that proximity Auto Unlock feature. I was told by the salesman there would be no way to lock the fob inside the truck.

Turns out, you can. You just need to manually lock the driver’s door using the valet key. This will lock all the doors and the fob can remain in the center console (or wherever you hide it).

Obviously, someone could break into the truck, push the start button, and take off, but I figure locked in the truck is safer than left in my board bag on the beach.

I do the same thing when I go surfing, but I put my key fob in a faraday cage (which blocks the fobs signal) then I lock it all in the glovebox. Here’s a link to the faraday cage (bag) I bought

Hold down the lock button and push unlock twice. Hitting any button will turn it back on.

Same deal for me. I bought a rfid only key from dealer. No buttons. then I leave the button key at home to surf. reminds me of the 80's. old school is best school..

Yup. I do this too. I found it the easiest solution since you don't have to mess with anything else in the truck. Never use a lockbox attached to your truck.

I looked at a hitch tailgate lock but there were a bunch of negative reviews from surfers who had theirs broken into.

That's smart. I will have to rethink the way I've been doing it.
