I have been looking to buy a console safe and was debating between Locker Down and Console Vault. I never saw any deals on Locker Down the past few months which is more expensive, but I found this sponsored promo for 10% off via another site. To give credit where credit is due.. link below with promo code at the bottom of the page for Locker Down.

I know it's a stretch, but do you happen to know the difference between these two models? Only asking in case you already asked them and got the answer (lol). Its a $40 price difference and they both have the very same lock options...

    Thicker lid, apparently.

So says my black-belt in Google-Fu.

I've got the Lock'er Down. It's very well built. A longer barrel pistol will fit, just have to lay it top down.

Thanks for that. I emailed the company asking for inner dimensions but so far no reply, your pics told me everything I needed to know.

One more question. They say "easy 10 min installation" but it leaves me wondering how it connects to the truck. Does it just drop in and can be easily pulled out and taken? How does it secure to the console?

Could not find an installation manual for the Lockerdown (although they have instructions for all the other models they sell).

However, the alternative manuals might help.

Here is the OEM Toyota Tacoma Console Safe instructions: http://toyotaparts.sparkstoyota.com/install/00016-35974inst.pdf

    The Console Vault instructions: https://www.consolevault.com/assets/images/CVIS-1078_B.pdf

I went with the newer locker down extreme after finding out the older one was prone to be pried open.I just installed mine open and it fits great! The washers they supply are for the latch on the armrest to shim it down so it can close. I supplied my own washers for the new longer bolts as they came with none. I'm very happy and confident in this safe.

So I got mine, went with the dial and 4 spin wheels, but I think their QA is bad, or they literally don't care about their customers. The lid closes fine, but when I turn the dial to engage the latch, it rubs against part of the slot the latch goes into to secure it because it wasn't aligned properly. I tried filing down the latch arm a bit but it barely helped. I think they didn't line up the slots properly when they assembled the unit.

Not worth paying to ship it back and of course they should have tried it themselves before sending it to a customer, so now I will be telling everyone to be cautious and make sure their latch doesn't jam when closing/opening. There's no way to file down the steel since it's too small of an area to get a file in. It works but I have to turn the dial with a lot of force, but for the amount of money they charge this one shouldn't have been sent to a customer.

Well the lid on mine also has that rubbing issue but I can't see any rubbing on the latch itself. For some reason I thought the screw holding the latch is too tight. I'll loosen it some and see if that might be the issue

That’s nice! I’ve been debating on getting one. The one I had in my Silverado was much bigger. I can barely fit my gun with a sidecar holster in this console. Downsides is you also can’t use the cool organization pieces

Just installed mine and I put the 4 washers for the latch screws and it still won’t close. Any ideas?

I would be interested to hear what your research leads you to. The biggest thing to me is the access method and the chintzyness of the actual lock bar.

It looks to me like it would be pretty easy to defeat with the right tools and experience. But to I know the cost of manufacturing may be a big influence in design.

Not that it needs to be Fort Knox, but with all the tech these days it looks like someone would make a fingerprint reader or the like for fast access.

And maybe even more substantial multi-position locking bars in place of the blade that might keep an honest man out.

    Just saying.
