Load Range E vs C tires?

    Question? Has anyone run both load ranges and seen a difference?

    I have 16" wheels and love BFG ko2s but they only come in load range E. I would prefer load range C but they only offer that in 17". Can anyone tell me if they noticed a difference? Ride quality and especially MPGs?

    I worry about the stiffness and weight. I think the BFGs are around 50lbs while the Revos that I have now are 36lbs.

    For what its worth...C Load rides WAY better on the Tacoma than E did on my 1/2 Ton Silverado....apples to oranges but I wouldn't put E on a Tacoma

    I have read more than I care to admit on this topic. Opinions vary from person to person based on what they are used to, how they think the truck should perform for them, what they've done to the truck already, the type of terrain driven, etc. Suspension plays a huge role as well. If you are used to driving a dump truck as your daily, then E tires will ride like a caddy to you. If you are used to driving a caddy as your daily, then E tires will ride like a dump truck to you.

    What I decided to do is go with the tires I want (285/75R16) and experience it for myself when the time comes. If it sucks, tires can be changed in less time than I'll spend researching this topic. See if your tire shop of choice will be flexible with you on this. You'll be happier you made an informed decision based on your needs, and will be able to sleep at night knowing that :)

    It's a stiffer ride with E compared to C. E is also about 7 to 9 lbs heavier than C per tire, so mileage will be affected at some level. There's probably a smidge more puncture protection on E compared to C, if that matters.
    Or just pick up some nice 17's and get the tire you want.

    thanks guys. Any observations about MPGs?

    And yes, I have thought about buying some 17" take offs. Theres a ton for sale on craigslist and Facebook. But at the same time the money I spend on 17 wheels will take a long time to recoup with the minor added MPG savings.

    That usually depends on tread design not so much load rating.

    I had take offs on before the 4Runner snowflakes. Those compared to my ko2s e load. The mpg wasn’t much different 1 mpg difference. I typically get 300 miles before my gas light comes on with 10ply all terrain tires

    I've spent lots of time researching this too. Lots.

    So what I am interested in is experiences. Does the stiffness and 15 lbs of added weight make a difference?

    Compared to stock tires a heavier tire with more aggressive tread will reduce fuel mileage from my personal experiences over the years. How much may be minor.

    When I got my truck in 2019, it had a set of Cooper Discoverer A/T3's (C load) on it (I've had those same tires on a previous vehicle). At the end of last year I made the decision to switch to Milestar Patagonia M/T's. I don't know if it's all Patagonia M/T's or just the 17 inch tires I got, but they only came in E so I'm rocking four E load tires now. I've put a few thousand miles on them since they got mounted, and the difference is... negligible. It's a pickup truck, not a sports car. Maybe I'm just as in tune as I should be, but they're fine by me. I can still get around 300 miles out of a tank of gas and the Memphis streets don't beat me up anymore than they did with my Coopers.

    Don’t let C vs E stop you from buying a tire. Buy The tire you want for traction/looks/performance. Buy LT if you have a good head on your shoulders. Buy P rated if you want the truck to feel like a minivan.

    stirring shit a bit there, but honestly I’ve run C and E in different tires. Cant directly compare. I found them pretty close, but stiff tires bother me not at all.
