Anyone do a Line-X undercoating for rust prevention on the chassis and undercarriage? I have a '21 and would like to slow down the inevitable. Wondering if it's any better than other ways of treating the underside?

Most of us are going to swear by something oil based.

That would be worse than a rubberized encapsulator. Water will get in, but it won't get out. I'd do Rust-Veto/Cosmoline if I was so inclined.

If you want a one and done, cosmoline looks like a good way to go.

Cosmoline was my best option on a newly built truck. After nearly 1 1/2 years, and 14 k miles, it still looks as if i did it a week ago. I use to use fluid flim on my past tundra, but repeating the same job year after year was getting old plus it costed way more in the long run. Cosmoline doesn't seem to wash off, at least not yet for my driving needs like fluid flim did leaving surface rust every spring to get worse.

    2X for Cosmoline

The problem with any type of hard/plastic/rubberized coating it that it cracks and allows water in to sit against the steel. Ford tried a plastic like paint on oil pans in the 90's -- the oil pans rusted through.

Cosmoline stays a bit soft and pliable, it won't crack.

Correct. If it will keep a rifle from rusting for 100 years it will keep your truck rust-free forever when applied yearly.

Don't I know it; I've cleaned my fair share of surplus rifles.

Check out PB Blaster Surface Shield. Lanolin based, creeps, displaces water and can last over 2 years. Coated my whole underside with it. Looks great and holds up really well to water/washes.

Short of not driving in the winter, true.
Good products properly applied and attention to detail can slow it down though.
