I have falcon mt01s in 255/85/16”skinny” in a 10 ply and they say they’re about 55 pounds maybe a little more depending on what site I look at. I’m wanting to get rpt1s in a 17in to increase my tire option so I can try and find a lower ply 35 and or a skinny 35. What have you guys found to be a good light tire?

I went with the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tire in a 255/85R17, but they are E load range and weigh around 64 lbs. They measure around 34.6" in diameter. They've been a great tire so far!

So you're recommending what he just said he does not want?

    I mean...is there a lightweight 35? I'm on the skinny Kendas and I think they're D-load and like 72lbs each

The Goodyear Territory MTs Load Range C are very light for a 35". There is 2 versions; A and B type tread patterns.
These are the OEM Bronco Raptor tire. Not a mud terrain, but a "maximum terrain".
Shallow tread depth relative to others but are so cheap it doesn't hurt the wallet too bad.
I run them part of the year, ~10K miles so far. Like to pick up gravel but not an issue for daily.

Get the whole "ply" thing out of your head. You cannot gauge weight based on ply rating (it's not actual # of plies btw) or load rating. You have to just look at the weights. Tire construction varies massively from brand to brand and model to model and if you try to compare ply ratings and load ratings (which are ratings on a tire's ability to carry weight - not it's durability and not the weight of the tire). You'll also find that higher load/ply rating does not mean the tire is heavier.

Keep in mind that getting the RPT1 means you're running a 9" wheel which might limit your tire options. That's a wide wheel and most of the lighter tire options will likely be narrower tires that would be better suited for a 7-8" wide wheel.

What you need to do is spend time on all the manufacturer websites and possibly email customer service if the weights aren't listed. Then put together a spreadsheet listing the options available and their weights. To do it right, it's time consuming. I recently did the same thing with 33" tire options.

    They make a 315/70R17 which is 34.4".

Funny coincidence I just saw these on a Bronco in a parking lot last week and was blown away when I looked at the size. They didn't look big so I did a double take when I saw the 315 stamped on the size. Not sure if they just measure out smaller than they're listed or if they just look small or if they just looked small at that moment without additional context... They really didn't look bigger than my 255/85R16.

And it's 55lbs, which is the weight OP is trying to get below. My point is that getting a lightweight 35 may be challenging, and as this shows even the 34.4" in C-load is at or above the OP's target weight range.

I had selected the 315 before copying the link. Must have reverted.

I also run the MT Baja MT in 35" Load Range D. They look bigger than the Goodyears and are slightly bigger over all. The C range when comparing these 2 is noticeably softer. But both of these are noticeably softer than the Falken AT3W in 34/11.50r17 Load Range E that I ran through 2 sets before. I'll never go with that stiff of a tire again on this truck. Other than that those were very nice tires.

The Bajas were ~400/tire. The good years were under 200/tire.

He didn't say specifically that he was looking for lighter than 55lbs, just that he's looking for a light 35". I wasn't' saying anything contrary to your point. This is a tall order. IMO, 55lbs is pretty darn light for a 35. My 33's are 4lbs heavier than that. I personally haven't done all the research on 34-35" tire options but after doing that research with 33's I'd be surprised if there are other options <60lbs. At least ones that are decent off road tires and not just highway tires or something.

    Nothing light about big tires.
That would be way too high on the OPs 2nd gen. I have 4.56 gears on my 6spd and would go to 4.30 if I did it again. RPMs get over 3k at 75mph. Crawling speed in 4lo is nice though.

Unicorn. Do a regear. Need to anyway with 35's. Those skinny, bony things are no match for something with some heft... 35's BABY!

I believe 315/70/17 ko2s are 62-63 pounds in a c load which is pretty dang light

I’ve looked at these and think these are the ones I want if I go with a 17in wheel. If I get get 16in rpt1s “17 pounds” and cooper discoverer at3 “62-63” pounds I’ll be at the same weight as my 33 skinnies. At about 80 pounds
