hello everyone. I was hoping someone has ran into this issue before, or had some insight.

This morning, I installed a Baja Designs S8 40” bar on my front runner rack. The bar is being installed into a Switch pro 9100. Due to the Switch Pro, i make my own harness, which is just three wires into the switch pro. All the wires I am using 12 gauge wire.

I installed the light bar this morning, and everything worked great from the Amber backlighting to the entire bar. When I got home from the grocery store, I was double checking everything and now only one section of the 40” bar lights up, while another section is dimly lit, and the remaining is not lit at all.

Also, the amber backlighting is only active on 25% of the bar. I double checked my connections and I re-installed the three prong quick release connector (not sure what these are called but are included in Baja Designs boxes) and still nothing.

Anyone has any ideas on what to do? I did check my add a fuses and it is intact. All other lights and accessories tied into the switch pro are working fine.

I sent customer service an email, but since I knew they were closed this weekend, didn’t know if anyone on the forum had issues.

It’s not getting enough power. When I hook up any light to a 9V this same thing happens, so I’m guessing that may be your issue

Yeah but how did it lose power after it worked just fine?? Maybe after the initial trial run something got hot and a connection is loose?? I dont think that would happen with baja products but then again there are those 1 offs that do that...

Light is being wired from my 31m Northstar battery if that matters. Switch Pro says I have 12.24V.

run some wires up to it direct from the battery. if they all light up then you know the wiring is the issue. if its still bad then it could be the light. if its still not lighting up, i would pull the bar and wire it direct with shorter wires just to make sure its getting full power.

now if it still doesnt light up, you can wait to hear back from BD or you could pull the lenses and see if any of the jumpers came loose.

Awesome, thanks for the input! My plan was to wire directly to my battery tomorrow (Thanks as well to @Zac of all trades for the help) to see if that has any change. Great idea just to pull the bar off the rack.

Will update tomorrow with any results. Might be later on in the afternoon. Thanks again everyone for your replies

Well finally have an update. Waited till it was not as hot (even though it’s still hot) and I removed my bar. Placed the bar on my hood and the 12 gauge cables are about 20” in length. Don’t want to cut the connection on the bar, so just shoved the wires into each designated hole. Wired the bar directly to the battery and nothing else is running. I’m getting the same results as yesterday unfortunately.

    Sorry about the issue

Most likely there is a ground issue on the circuit boards causing the 3 sections to go out. It's possible the circuit board screws loosened up very slightly. We are happy to take care of this

    @Goose8651

Just saw this thread myself. Looks as though the primary answer has been addressed. I think the run to the store jostled something loose. If you run into any additional issues regarding warranty work, etc you know where to find me. These guys are generally rock solid on helping out on this stuff though.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Guess I’ll wait to see what baja says hopefully tuesday and work through the issues. Fingers crossed it’s not super complicated and something I can handle. Hope everyone has a great rest of the Holiday weekend!

So it looks like one of the jumps came partially out, so fixed that but then got a different result. I think there is just a defective item on the 2nd board causing the issues...

Keeping everyone up to date. Spoke to a Technician via email this morning and chatted with him over the phone this afternoon from BD. After discussing with him everything we had done similar to the above, he decided that it was something to do with the panel either grounding, board, etc. Since I had owned the bar less than a week, he is going to be sending me a new bar and asked me to send my existing bar back to him with a shipping label provided by BD. Unfortunately, the housings are out of stock, so it doesn’t look like they will be able to make the bar for at least a week, so hoping I have something in two weeks (ish).

Overall, I was very impressed with Technical support and thanks to everyone’s help with trying to find a fix. I now have a somewhat hate relationship with Bryce Menzies and Cameron Steele (if you are on hold with BD, you’ll get it), but nothing I can really complain about. Hope to have an update in about two weeks!

Bro. Their hold jingle is ludicrous. Definitely needs a refresh...

If you need ANYTHING else from my end just let me know. Glad they are getting you sorted out

If they didn’t have the two of them on repeat with maybe hold music or something between the two, it wouldn’t be as bad. When on hold for 15 minutes, I was going crazy!

    Thanks!

The on-hold jingle can get a little tedious. I'll see if we can refresh it a little.

The jingle was a mixture of advertising and Ron Burgundy playing the Jazz flute
