Im looking for a place to put my 42inch light bar. I don't necessarily want to put it on cab because I don't want to drill. Does anyone have one on their camper shell? Maybe on a roof rack back there or a basket? Thanks!

Not exactly what you're looking for, but maybe it'll help. I had some rigid pods mounted under the front Yakima bar on my cap. They made specific mounts for the pods. Not sure if they exist for the longer light bars. I used a cord that plugged into my lighter, but you could easily hard wire it.

My cap was a mid-rise, so they fit under without causing much glare off roof. For a flush mount cap, it's probably better to mount on top of rack or basket.

Thanks for the reply! I have mounts kinda like that for the light bar right now. But the light will stick straight out from the bar, and I'm afraid that the bar will slope down after a while

You'll be blocking most of the usable light, kind of defeat the purpose of having it.

true.... I guess i figured it would just diffuse as it went out. but it probably would get far enough to do that.

You can just wire one up really quick and hold it at where you like and see how well it lights up.

I've seen a lot of people put them on a roof rack. If you have a rack, that's kind of the obvious place to put it.

I remember seeing a few people that put them on a rack on their camper shell. Some seem to think the lighting is acceptable from that far back, however it seems that would block out quite a bit of light unless you mount the lights really high.

Even still, if you mount them right over the windshield (you know, bro style), you still may need to make/buy a plate that will prevent the light from reflecting off your hood. Depending on how you position the light and the color/finish of your hood, the glare can be quite bad.

Not 42, but that's how my 22" F/R on crossbar & 12" side on rail are mounted. It's nice to have light to setup camp in the dark instead of carrying a lantern around.

Yep. Even with spots instead of floods it needs something to block the light. Once you aim it right the light passes right past the hood. Aim it wrong and your windshield and hood glare too much to be useable. But block it too much and the light touches down waaaay out there and doesn't work either. Hit the sweet spot and life is good.

    I know it's not a 42" lighter, but it's pretty friggin bright.

Here is my mount on a large Curt basket that I mounted to my camper shell. Works great. in that the roof keeps the glare off the hood. Downside is that it leaves a dark area immediately in front of the truck, but I merely installed a 12 inch bar on the front to fill that area with light. Its a little hard to tell from this perspective, but the rack overhangs the back of the roof just a bit, so you don't get light into the rear window area.IMG_0074.jpg
