Recently bought my first home- three car garage with a double/single setup. Double side has a LiftMaster 2220 unit, single side was manual operation only. My dad is a home builder and had a 3220 motor and track he had removed from a clients house. I was able to install the 3220 (along with new sensors and wall mount button) on the single side without an issue and it's been working flawlessly. The other day, the 2220 stopped working. Checked power to the outlet and unit- all good. The green led on the wall mount was not on, so I popped the cover off the working 3220 button and had voltage there, did the same with the 2220 side- only .3v on the multimeter. Thinking it may have been an issue with the wire, I went back to the unit itself, and took out the longer run of wire to the wall, and used the multimeter directly against the unit, and got the same .3v. I assume this means the logic board is toast. It also does not respond to the wireless remotes.

I have found logic boards on ebay in the $50 range, refurb boards in the $100 range, and new stuff from lift master at almost the cost of a new unit altogether.

My REAL question is- right now the 2220 and 3220 didn't have the same color learn buttons and needed separate remotes to operate them. Does anyone have enough experience to say whether a logic board from the 3220 will work in the 2220 unit? From what I can tell without taking anything apart further is that everything looks identical. It would be great to install a 3220 logic board in the 2220 unit and not have two openers for the house.

I realize I can actually "just try this" by putting the logic board from the working 3220 in the broken 2220, but I also don't wanna fry that if they are already known to be incompatible.

I also reached out to a few of the vendors for the refurb logic boards to ask them, and they weren't willing to suggest anything other than installing a board that matched the model.

i don't think you're going to find too much info anywhere about garage door modification. any certified/knowledgeable techs are mostly going to be trained on troubleshooting and warranty replacement. they might be able to suggest it if the control boards carry the same numbers, but if any of the numbers on it are different for any reason, most are going to do as you've found from the venders.

I kinda figured, but just hoping that someone in the community might see this and have an answer.

Gonna leave this there so someone else can enjoy a complete reading comprehension / customer service failure:

    My original message:
Hi- I have a LiftMaster 2220 unit (double car side) with a bad logic board (power to the unit is good, no green led on the wall mount button, and doesn't respond to the remotes, confirmed with a multimeter that no voltage is being "sent" to the wall mount contacts). I also have a working 3220 on the single side of the garage. I am curious about the compatibility of the 3220 and 2220 logic board- specifically, can I get a replacement 3220 and install it into the 2220 unit? I see that you list them with different frequencies, but it would be great to not have to have two different remotes for each model.

    Their first response:
Thank you for reaching out to us. We're here to assist you in the best possible way. To ensure we provide you with accurate guidance, I recommend referring to the owner's manual that came with your opener. If you don't have it handy, you can easily find it online.

Once you locate the manual, please provide us with the O E M part number mentioned in the manual. This will help us efficiently look up the exact part you need.

Kindly reply with the part number, and we'll swiftly get started on assisting you further.

Your satisfaction is our priority, and we're eager to help you with your needs.

    My reply:
    Hi M---,

I suppose what I am driving towards is not conventional. While I understand that I should replace the 2220 logic board with the correct replacement logic board, I am specifically asking if a 3220 logic board would work in a 2220 unit. I have one of both, and I would like to effectively make the 2220 a 3220.

    Their second response:
what brand of opener are you working with?

    ____

So now I know for sure that this guy is not even reading these messages

Also, if your job is to sell these parts, and someone gives you a pretty straightforward model number, they should be able to recognize the brand.

    I feel your pain.
You’re setting yourself up for disappointment if you think you will get any answer other than.

“It sounds broke. You should probably just buy a new one”.

Why repair it, when you can replace it. Seems to be the new trend.

I am more disappointed that the guy can't read. I am expecting that they'll advise against it... I just didn't know if it was going to be like "Oh yeah, that should work just fine" or "It doesn't work that way". Didn't expect "I can't read".

I think you got a bot response, not a guy. If it was a guy, never trust an answer.

If you can live with the single side being manual a while, maybe move that working unit to the double, then keep an eye out for a compatible single?

Anytime I see the world “kindly” I get the feeling it’s “out sourced”.

In one of OPs emails it said, “Kindly reply with the part number, and we'll swiftly get started on assisting you further.”

Something tells me the help center isn’t based in America?

I suspect at best, you’ll get a part# for the control board for the 2220.
I bet they will never acknowledge your actual question. It will be same “This part is what you need” response.

Having said that, I do think it’s cool you are will to “ask” and see if it’s possible.
Not many people these days would try to “make it work”.
Most would just replace it. Which is sad.

Generally, I would agree that "kindly" would be outsourced, but in this instance, these messages are to a very "proudly USA" company. I think that realistically they don't have the time to answer internet questions. I would probably get a better response by just calling them.

I thought about that, but these are both OLD openers, and keeping an eye out (... on EBay I guess?) would require more time than I can afford on this project at the moment. Still have a few projects to complete from the remodel.

Yeah, I am just gonna order the "right part" and continue to deal with having two remotes...
