What are the complications of lifting a double cab with long bed vs short bed?

For some reason, the Tacoma TRD Lift kit excludes the Double Cab with Long bed. Must be a complication with sensors or something specific to the long bed. What's the reason?

Looking at buying a new model Tacoma with long bed and would like to level or lift with aftermarket parts. What are my options?

    Thanks

I’ve had no issues. My tss sensor still works fine. I don’t have any of the other stuff since i planned to replace the rear bumper and didn’t want to fuss with bsm or parking sensors. I have bilstein 6112/5160, 700# pound springs in front and deaver stage 2’s in the rear, and 33’s

I believe this is a 2021 and newer issue. What year is your truck?

2021. I don’t know what you mean by problems. My truck was lifted before the oem lift was introduced. Aside from height and that it’s offered by Toyota there isn’t anything more advanced or unique about the lift they offer.

It's because Toyota never tried it on a DCLB and doesn't want to because of how few there are. You are fine but it's not worth it unless you can get it for less than a TRD pro grill and Bilstien 5100 pair and install it yourself.

The only part of your warranty you'll be violating is the struts themselves, because here in burger land we have this thing called the Magnusson-moss warranty act. It pretty much nullifies toyota's 12,000/12mos old and 36,000/36mos new warranty requirement that you install it at their dealers. But you better bring the law (as in print it out and highlight it) and tell them to get fucked.

Pretty much the TRD lift kit is the result of some exec's or upper management, along with some dealers knowing they can get rich on ignorance of the law. I mean some people have paid this year the price of a full long travel suspension plus install for their "TRD lift kit" which any suspension related issue would not have exceeded the cost of (upwards of 8k according to posters on here..yuk).

I've driven both and I can barely tell a difference between the 5100's and TRD struts.
    It's not read above.

Just FYI, Mag-Moss pertains to the warranty on the truck itself, not the warranty on the TRD Lift Kit....they can't refuse warranty work on the truck unless the installation of aftermarket part caused the issue. The requirement that this be a dealer installed option is for the warranty on the lift kit. Also, you can bring a copy of the law, tell them it exists, etc. all you want. They can still say no, then what are you going to do? The only alternative you have is to hire a lawyer and sue them in Federal court for the violation, and I can pretty much bet the first retainer check you write the lawyer will exceed the cost of the repair. Everyone loves to throw around Mag-Moss but they never consider the reality of enforcing it. It's not like you can call the cops and have the service writer arrested.

    No issues so far.

It's as good as the suspension that you put on it tbh.

I have no complaints. But I didn't skimp. Well worth the price due to how beautifully it performs.

Feels the same as the 2019 short bed I had.
You get out what you put in.

I put a 2" Bilstein 5100 with OME 887 spring, and single add a leaf deaver in the back. I don't bounce it around on rocks and stuff, so it works great for me. And I like how it feels and rives better as well. I also increased my tires to 265/70/17. Which gives me the perfect balance btween larger tires and decent gas milage. It also doesn't require banging, cutting, or chopping anything to keep them from rubbing. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that you might think of doing a preventstive needle bearing replacemnet with a ECGS bushing, as many times even a 2" lift will cause it to get a vibration. Mine did. Total cost for me at the time was around $1200.00. I installed the lift, and had a 4x4 shop do the bushing(well worth 200 for not having to mess with it myself).

Just finished putting 5100s up front (2nd setting) with the OEM spring last weekend, already had the rears done with a Helping helper spring. Haven't had a single problem and the ride has been great around town and on my 2 hour highway drive on Friday. I had no idea this was even a thing to worry about

I had the Bilstein 6112/5160 installed. Heard they have better road quality ride over the 5100 because the front 6112 is larger diameter. A bit more money but worth the extra since the install was the difficult part. Trying to find a shop I trusted and had the experience. The dealer won't do it. Turns out it's simple install any shop can do. With the double cab you can raise it to the 5th notch (not with the short bed); as per the Bilstein instructions. I didn't do the AAL at first because I heard the ride quality is stiffer and I wanted it it leveled without the rake. After install it looked nose high even though the shop assured me it was level. A month later I went back and got the Icon AAL installed. It looked a lot better with the AAL and I couldn't tell the difference in ride quality. Maybe better. Not UCA installed. Replaced the original wheels and tires, plasti dip sprayed the fenders, removed the front air dam and installed the TRD Pro skid plate, tinted the windows. I basically turned the 6 foot bed into a TRD Pro for less money with better quality parts. Love this truck. No way it would have held all my gear with the short bed.
