Do the 5th gen 4Runner’s have issues with lifting them in regards to the front diff like the Tacoma’s, do they have other issues that are created when lifting? Or are they pretty safe to lift without running into too much trouble? The urge to join the 4runner side keeps on growing.

Same passenger side front diff needle bearing issue but in my opinion that's not a deal breaker.

You'll be fine lifting it and even with KDSS at 3"

Do the trail models have KDSS? Really want to get into a trail model 4Runner but want to get all my intel down first to know what to expect and what not.

Not all of them. It's an option. If you are going to be lifting it anyway then KDSS is pointless.

That’s what I have found in some recent research, I was just unclear if all Trail/TRD off-road’s were equipped with it. Thanks for the clarification! Inching my way closer and closer to making it happen.

No issues lifting my 5th gen 4runner w/o KDSS. It was the same as the Tacoma. Only difference is coils are now your rear lift application rather than leaf springs.

Do it, you won't regret it. Join the dark side.

Nope, not at this time placed it in 4hi ran a couple miles and shifted back while offroad. No issues as of now and at 4700miles (Lift installed around 3000). You can replace for preventative purposes.

If you get a 4runner and don't need a 3rd seat get a OR or ORP same as a TRD OR but IMO more well put together and less cheap feeling.

You're going to have issues, it's just mileage and use based. Might be at 5k, might be at 100k.

My '14 had a lift on for 48k before the needle bearings started growling. My current '17 is at 38k with lift and its still okay. Honestly at this point I don't really care about it, when it fails you can ignore it without major repercussions or just replace with the ECGS bushing.

I would not let the diff issue dictate buying a 4R or lifting it.

Do the pieces of the bearing not go into the differential and potentially ruin it? I’m leaning towards it, waiting to see if 2020 will bring a redesign or not.

I guess I can't say for sure; I'd lean towards "no". I've never really examined the needle bearings nor have I ever pulled apart a diff so I can't visualize it.

Had my SR5 lifted since I got it new in 2014. Gone through 3 different sets of springs/shocks then finally settled Fox coilovers. So far hafter 60k miles I have had any issues yet. It'll come eventually and I will be ready for it.
