Hey guys. I'm really wanting to get just a cheap lift or something that will just give me some clearance for my 265/75 R16s and a 1 in wheel spacer. They rub my inner fenders and I am curious if anybody knows what is out there. Thanks fellas

Bilstein 5100s will be the cheapest yet most reliable lift you can get

Is it just like a shock replacement or is there more to it?

It's the actual shock but there are settings you can preload it to. Like .5" , 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5" of lift. They're not fully adjustable like high end coilovers, but they're much more safer and reliable than lift spacers.

Do most people use and add a leaf on the back when using the shocks on the front?

Yes. Either that or a longer shackle, which is what I did. I only lifted the rear of my 2004 about an inch, so I went with the shackles.

If your leafs have a lot of miles, you might consider a set of all new rear leafs from OME or something. Putting an aal on worn out springs isn't a great idea.

Do it right, do not get a spacer lift. I did this for about a grand.

Mully, how is the ride quality on those Fox coilovers? How much lift did you set them for? Thanks.

They ride firm at first, and they are set At 3". I added a full steel plate bumper and a 10K winch. Lost 1/4" on the lift and now they ride perfect for me. I am going to be jumping up to Kings, wish I had bought them first. This has been a top notch coilover, I have about 25K miles on them with no issues at all.

Great looking truck. Kings seem to be very highly regarded. What is your goal in switching from Fox to King?

Current FOX CO is only 2.0 with 650 springs. With all of the armor I am adding and taking the truck to the next level, I just want extended travel 2.5 KINGS with 700 springs and Camburg UCAs.

Mully, with the Fox 2.0 shocks set for a 3" lift, do you have decent down travel? I had a lifted Silverado once that had very little down travel and was always clunking coming off speed bumps, etc. I don't know if it was because the shock was topping out or if it was due to the control arm hitting the frame. Regardless, I don't want to have any banging or clunking with my Tacoma but I am looking for a 3" lift to clear 34" tires. I already have the LR UCA's and now I'm trying to figure out if I want to upgrade from the Bilstein 5100/OME 885 set up that I purchased but haven't installed yet. I'm after a smooth, comfortable ride for my daily driver, not off road performance.

The pic in post #10 is at full droop, here is a pic with full weight on them, these are not extended COs. I am replacing these with extended Foxs or Kings. And they not clank or bang off road.

No problem. Check out Accutune, they know their stuff when it comes to shocks, and custom tune the coilovers as compared to the stock factory tune. They set me up with my Foxs for a good price and with great tuning and support.

I don't own either fox or king but that comparison seems almost bias towards fox.

Just one example, It calls fox better at resisting cavitation at high speeds thanks to the 200 psi fox uses vs the kings 150 psi. It then proceeds to say you can easily boost kings psi to 200 but it's bad for the seals? Doesn't that mean it's bad for fox's seals?

Also are king 2.0s even offered on Tacomas? I don't know about second Gens but I've yet to come across them for a 3rd gen.
