I’m currently weighing how puttting a lift kit on my 2015 TRD Sport may alter the resell value in the long run. I plan to drive this truck from 20-70k (about 4 years based on my driving).

We all know resell on these trucks is ridiculously good- but does a lift help or hurt that value? I’m interested in your opinions.

For the sake of simplicity, let’s just assume this pole is based on a standard 3in coilover lift / UCAs up front and a full new leaf pack in the rear (which is what I’m considering). It’s not an expensive lift, but it’s not blocks and stock coils either.

    Thanks!

That's not something you can answer with a simple yes or no. You have to consider a few different factors in trying to determine what's best for you.

A lift will probably put more of a strain on various components of the vehicle which, theoretically would prematurely drive the value down. Also, assuming you'd sell it to a private party, when you put the lift on the vehicle, you're shrinking the size of potential buyers.

That said, its no secret that Lifted Tacoma's have a almost cult like following. A lot of people want them and are willing to pay for them so the lift may make the truck more appealing to the right customer. That also depends on where you're located. Your profile says you're in NC, and I suspect there are a lot of people there that like lifted trucks.

At the end of the day, you have to just do what makes you happy. Four years is a long time. If you want to put a lift on your truck, put a lift on it. Any potential loss from doing that will likely be negligible, as long as you perform routine maintenance and treat it right.

EDIT: I suspect your poll results (and responses) will be skewed and not an accurate representation of the general public. Most people come here because they like lifted trucks. Its not the type of place that someone who doesn't like lifted trucks would hang out.

I bought a used truck that was lifted previously. But it was the exact kit I wanted and the parts were top quality. I viewed it as added value to have it already installed.

Going along with what you said, another thing to consider is the construction of the lift itself. Putting spacers on your truck probably won't help resale because they ONLY affect what @CaliforniaTacoTuesday said about reliability/durability. Spacers will only make a truck ride worse and make wear and tear on the truck worse. If you go with a nice suspension lift and upgraded shocks and get to the point where it rides nice, you can get the look without effectively shrinking your pool of buyers as much since there are not nearly as many compromises for the look. Ive already had offers for more than I paid for my truck because of the mods done to it, FWIW. There is a market for modded trucks as CTT alluded to, you just will have to find them and forget the idea of selling to a dealership because they will totally dick you down over mods.

Depends on the components used for the lift.

If i were to buy a truck with a lift it would not at all efect my buying price unless it was like a full fox or king set up honestly. Most people cheap out on them and do block lifts anyways, that or they get beat on because its lifted now and it can krawl all the rox!

Every time I trade in or sell, I always get my money back and some for doing lift/wheels/tires the right way. I do not recommend buying something already lifted if you’re like me and don’t keep vehicles very long,, as you’re probably overpaying for it anyways. Do it yourself, and you will definitely get your money back when it comes to sell. Sure, you shrink your market, but there is always someone willing to pay more for a truck already tastefully modded.

Around here, it seems that lifts increase resale. Unfortunately, most of those lifts are spacers and blocks. Most buyers don’t know what a quality lift consists of, so they just buy what looks cool.

I voted that I would not buy a lifted truck, but if the lift was done correctly like you mention then I would change my answer. If I looked at a used truck that had a legit lift, then I would assume the previous owner cared and did some research. In this case I would think of it as money I don’t have to invest.

Whatever the poll may end up saying, real world would mean much lower percentage wanting a lift. The people on this site in general are more likely to lift.

If you resell the truck after you lifted it,you wont get any of your money back on the extras you added.

99 % of Tacoma owners are NOT on TW,so therefore they go by Bluebook or Nada, they could careless about your lift, its all about the bottom line(sale price) and condition of the truck, also lots of folk's take lifted trucks as being owned by 20 year old's that have been heavy handed with the truck and as such avoid them.

    Partially true.

I only trade my trucks in to dealers. Hell, even the same dealer that I bought them from, and they pay me way more than I paid for the truck the first time around.

Seems like whenever I see lifted trucks, there’s always other things that appear to be hacked on, so a lift tends to make me a bit cautious.

    To answer the OP's question:

No matter where I buy it from, I simply do not trust other people's fuckery. And yes, that includes the dealership. They throw on a $139 leveling/spacer lift and add $4k to the price tag. Again, say no to the fuckery and learn some shit in the process. Do it yourself!
