I’ve long forgotten about this. It’s inconsequential and I think common.

I know this shouldn’t happen but I’ve had 9 trucks in my life all new and I’m certain that all of them have been like that

There's usually a slight difference due to bedsides and floors not having precisely the same alignment. It's not the space shuttle. Sit on the tailgate. If they are both tight then, it's OK.

Could also be that the actuators on the power gates dont unload evenly until you load it.

Mine are even enough to never think about again...

OK this got me curious. I checked my tailgate - the left cable stay is nearly taut with no weight on it while the right cable is taut.

Seems like a non-issue for me.

I had the same issue, 2024 TRD OR, Solar Octane. Totally unacceptable. I went to the local dealer and compared it to the trucks on the lot. Mine was worse off. Dealer let me swap mine on the spot with one from the parts department. I'm 240 lbs and barely could make the loose side taunt when on the tailgate before, they're dead even now with no issue. Definitely a cable inconsistency problem. Should be no questions getting it warrantied out from Toyota.
