Need some suggestions..I want to install 285/70/17' Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my 2019 Taco. How much do I need to lift it for clearance? I've used Billstein 5100 in the past and like em a lot.. Just not sure if they'll get me enough... Had a similar set up on my Ram 1500 but this is a new game for me.. Thanks

Unless you're going with a 4"+ drop bracket lift, the amount of lift won't make a difference, at least for Tacoma's.

There is a portion of the frame that the cab mounts to that almost any tire that is 33" tall will hit, with the possible exception of a 255/80R17, due to it being much narrower. This also has a lot to do with wheel width, offset, and backspacing since this determines the arc that the tire will move in when turning and compressing the suspension.

So you really have two options here.
    1. Lift it with whatever lift suits your liking, trim some plastic and do a Cab Mount Chop (lots of info on it here, just search for "CMC" or cab mount chop). Make sure you choose a wheel with a backspacing of 4 inches for 8" wide, or 4.5 inches for up to a 9" wide wheel. I wouldn't recommend trying to fit a wheel wider than 9 inches on a lift this small as it will rub more. is a great website for figuring out how all these things work.

    2. The second option if you want more lift is a drop bracket lift. These are typically 4 inches or more, and require cutting your frame. These are fairly permanent lifts and you should do a lot of research before choosing one as there are huge differences in quality between brands. The upside to this is that it gets the wheel and tire out of the wheel well and you no longer have to trim to run large tires. The downside is that these lifts generally look huge on our trucks.

It really just depends on how much trimming/cutting/hammering you're comfortable with, and what look you want to have in the end. Good luck!

I have a 2nd gen. I run a 285/70/17 on 17x8.5 -10 offset with a toytec 3” lift. Bilstein with toytec coils, jba ucas and caster set at 4* no cmc . I would think you could do the same on the 3rd endless maybe the cab mount is a bit further forward.

This was not my experience at all.

Yeah there's a lot of factors that come into play so I'm sure some people could run it and have no issues. It seems like the majority have some rub when flexing the suspension, but then again not a lot of people have 4 degrees caster either.

I'm hoping to barely squeeze by without a CMC using 305/70R16s (33x12.2) with 4.1 degrees of caster and 16x8 -12s. I doubt it'll work without a CMC on my 2nd gen though. I'll try to remember to report back at least for the 2nd gen guys, maybe it'll help someone.

    I only have 2.5 caster

Nice, maybe I'll get away with the 305s then. I'm doing the Falken Wildpeak AT3W and they run a little skinnier than some.

Truck looks great. What did you do in the rear, lift wise? I'm going to 888 coils, spc UCAs and 285/70/17 tires. I ordered a 3 leaf AAL, but not sure to keep the overload in or not.
