We bought a Lifetime products 55 quart cooler last year and it has been a great purchase. It has some great features, feels really well built and retains ice a long time. It was so good that I posted a good review of it on their website in that review I said something about I wish they made a smaller cooler with similar features. Well a few weeks ago I got an Email from lifetime products asking if I’d like a sample of their new 28 quart cooler to review. I was like heck yes!! All that is a long way of saying I got a free cooler to test and write a review about. There was no pressure to write a good review. I wanted to share my review here since a lot of us use coolers.

My wife and I love lifetime coolers. We’ve had a 55 quart cooler for a year now and we still love it. We got the 28 quart cooler a few days ago and it matches or beats the quality of our 55 quart cooler. It feels sturdy and well built, but it isn’t too heavy. It comes with a rigid handle that makes it a breeze to carry even when full. It has a lock that doubles as a bottle opener. Our favorite feature is the easy open/close latches. These are without a doubt the best designed latches we’ve seen on a cooler at any price point.

As soon as we got it, we wanted to test it out, but the weather lately hasn’t been exactly what you’d call cooler testing temperature. We were curious to see how long it would hold ice under more real world conditions. We’ve never pre-chilled a cooler, so we started we the cooler at room temp, we tossed in a 10lb bag of ice and a 12 pack of room temperature sodas. This filled the cooler about half way. With that setup I left it in the living room in front of the fire place and waited to see what happened. After 72 hours there was still a small amount of ice left and the drinks were still ice cold. I have no doubt, that with proper pre-chilling of the cooler, and loading it with cold items it would reach the advertised 5 days of ice retention.

This past weekend, we took it out and used it like we would normally. Based on its size we plan to use this cooler for day trips and overnighters. We packed a picnic lunch and some cold drinks then used a couple of reusable ice packs to chill thing down. This setup filled the cooler about halfway. We had a long day out and everything was still well chilled at the end of the day. This cooler fits nicely below the bed rails of our truck and it also makes a good seat. We can’t wait for more adventures with this cooler.

We think this cooler is simply the best value for money available. It has features and performance that rival high priced coolers at an affordable price.

They sell them at Walmart. I saw one locally in NC for $78. Lifetime lists it on their website for $99 with free shipping.

It is nice to be able to buy something made in the USA that isn't stupid expensive. I agree the 55 quart model is a bit hard to slide around. The one in the pictures is a 28 quart model and it has a metal handle that flips up. It's not too heavy even when fully loaded.

So now that you have had the 28 one over a year, how has it held up? Just curious as I was looking for one to carry for food that would fit under my diamondback cover so my drinks don't have to share a cooler with my fish!

Still working really well. It's been on about 40 different day trips, several multi-day trips and I've been using for work everyday since Co-vid started, so I don't have to use the break room. It hasn't had a single problem.

If it was lost or stolen, I'd buy another without hesitation.

I thought I'd drag this thread back to life and give a report on how our lifetime cooler has been holding up. It just passed three years old and it's still going strong. We used it today for a day trip and it still keeps things as cool as the day it was new. The latches are still the best thing about it, they are easy to open and close and keep the lid sealed just fine.

I think they are still in the $100 price range but I haven't checked recently. This cooler offers performance on par with the fancy brands at a fraction of the cost.

Great cooler, great price. They are similar to YETI but YETI are 3 to 5 times more expensive. No way I’d pay for a yeti when for the same price I could get at least 3 Lifetime coolers.

I saw this and thought I’d check when I was in a Walmart yesterday. At least in Maryland they were still selling them at $94. They had plenty in stock including a new tan colored version of the small one. Which now I think I want one of those :D:D
