So I noticed I had a license plate bulb out on the driver side. I bought 2 new led bulbs so hopefully they would last for a while but when I put them in the driver side is still out. Yes I tried switching the bulbs just to make sure.
Before I go crazy with the tester and attempting to trace the wires I didn't know if anyone had any suggestions as to where the failure might be. Thanks in advance.

    Just a few LEDs...
Did you try inserting the bulb after turning it 180 degrees? They might be polarity sensitive.

The other thing that might be occurring is poor contact between the clips in the socket and the wires or tabs on the bulb. If you have the type of LED bulb that has what looks like two thin wires that come out the bottom and then bend over the sides, the wires may not be making good contact with the clips in the socket. You might also look at the clips in the socket to see if they are spread too far apart to contact the bulb.

so the OE bulb was out on one side, not the other, correct?

Did you try the working bulb in the side that was out? Just to verify?

Is there 12v in the socket? If yes, you have a corrosion or connection issue. If not, you have no choice but to start going upstream looking for a flaw.

Yes to be clear the regular incandescent bulb was out only on the drivers side and I did verify that the bulb was working in the socket on the opposite side. I will have to put a colt meter to the socket and see what I have.

I will give all of these things a try tomorrow when there's daylight and let you know how I make out.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. And when I looked into it, I found out that the wire was cut. Still have no idea why, but hopefully I can get it fixed one day.

Might sound stupid but did you look in the general area of where the cut was to see if anything on the truck could have been the culprit? Also about where was yours cut?

It was cut right up to where it connects to the plastic. I think the previous owner used it to wire up backup camera or something.

Well don't I feel stupid. Turned out it was either the reverse polarity thing or just me taking it out and putting it back in did something to solve the problem. Thanks for the input guys
