LG LED Headlights too bright for oncoming traffic?

I have a 2021 TRD Off-Road which came with the LG LED headlights. I hadn't been doing too much night driving over the summer but now that the days are getting shorter I've been out at night a lot more.

This is when I noticed that even when my headlights are in their standard low mode, about 10% of the cars that I drive by at night flash their headlights at me thinking I have my high beams on. I started flashing them back so they'd know I wasn't a giant d-bag driving around with my high beams on.

Has anyone else had this issue with their LED headlights? There isn't much I can do but I feel like a giant a-hole driving around blinding people at night...

check/adjust them or ask the dealer to. It's not uncommon for the dealer to take delivery and rush/skip some of the delivery setup stuff like adjusting/aiming headlights, alignment, fluid checks (transmission fluid low?!), etc.

I had this same issue with both my new Tacoma and new 4Runner. A trip back to the dealership for re-alignment solved them both.

There's a big thread regarding aftermarket LED headlights. Your dealer likely installed them because they aren't OEM.

Basically when they don't bother to do their research and just throw LEDs in the housings, the light throw/beam pattern are not the same as was intended because the reflectors inside are designed for the positioning of a halogen filament. An LED chip, especially on cheap LEDs, does not mimic this position well.

For this reason, aftermarket LEDs/HIDs are illegal for on road use. LEDs or HIDs in purpose built housings are ok. A simple realignment may relive the symptoms of people flashing you (also may not) but you'll be sacrificing your light throw. Simply changing a bulb shouldn't be a reason for a realignment. If so you have an improper bulb in the housing.

I think LG is the option code for the factory LED headlights. OP has factory LED's on his truck in the pictures he's posted.

The issue is the truck/lights are high off the ground. And it does in fact blind lower vehicles. Just a matter of physics and where the lights are mounted :/. I used to be the one blinded now I’m the asshole also…

I've never heard of that. But if that is the case, I second the suggestions about having the alignment double checked.

Yes and no. I got flashed all the time with my GMC Canyon, even by other trucks. This had stock bulbs in it with a stock alignment.

Fast-forward a year and I got my Tacoma. Even with my LEDs I've never been flashed with my low beams on. Alignment is key assuming everything else is done properly.

OP your profile pic shows a camper shell on the back. Have you added anything else that would add a lot of weight to the back end and would cause the front to lift a bit? As said above, make sure the lights have been adjusted properly.

That's just a softtopper on the back which doesn't weigh anything. I get flashed even when the truck bed is empty and i'm the only one in the vehicle.

like @GrundleJuice said, these are OEM lights that are part of the LED upgrade package through Toyota. I bought the vehicle new from Toyota and it came with these installed.

Thanks for the alignment suggestions. I'll look into that next time I go in for service!

The problem is that even from the factory, a lot of the headlights on these trucks are misadjusted.

The fact the truck sits higher than obviously a car, only further exacerbates the issue on top of the fact that the headlights are LED which make them wildly bright, which makes the need to have them adjusted properly even more critical at risk of blinding others.

You don't have to go the dealer to adjust headlights. It's one adjustment screw. The dealer doesn't have to hold your hand every time your truck needs something

Chevy's and GMC are the fuckin worst. From the factory they're are way too high. Every time I see some bright lights, it's always a Chevy and their dumb projectors.

I have morimoto xb led headlights which almost as bright as the OEM LED headlights and this same thing happens me too. I've adjusted mine to the recommended specs too. I think people are more concerned about my fog lights then my headlights though . I always flash my highbeams back at them though

took this pic ~4.5 feet above the ground, which is about eye level with the average sedan

    WITH LOWBEAM & FOG ONLY
    37BF64A7-A8A0-4E1B-B265-4173E270DC9A.jpg

also, I think people confuse my lowbeams with highbeams because all my projectors are on at all times. The projector furthest to the center is much brighter with highbeams on

I know you're trying to be a troll, but thanks for bringing this up. I didn't realize it was as simple as adjusting a screw.

The method to adjust them is fairly simple (usually two adjustment screws but maybe these only have one?), but the setup and specs are specific and require an area with adequate space and a clear-ish wall to aim at. Garage doors can be used but only if the driveway is level, which is not typical. Without a clear level area, you can condense the measurements for a smaller area but that is at the expense of precision. The dealer should have equipment to adjust and measure the headlight beam very precisely.

Google the process and you can see if it's something you want to mess with or not. It never hurts to try, worst case you take it to the dealer anyway. Just don't break anything or tell them you messed with them.

OEM '21 4runner with OEM LEDs I get flashed all the time.

Auxito LED bulbs in halogen housings that will cause the apocalypse to begin and cause immediate blindness to every set of eyes that lay sight upon them, in my '21 Tacoma hasn't had a single driver flash me.

If you're getting flashed it probably has more to do with alignment instead of output.
