So on a recent trade I got Ruger M77 with a Leupold Vari x-II on it. These are Leupold's older scopes, the ones with the friction adjustments. Well I was looking the rifle over to maybe sight it in soon and took the covers off of the adjustments. The elevation adjustment was alright, but the windage adjustment was really worn out. So much that I couldn't even really turn it. I'm kind of pissed at the guy for giving me this scope, but also at myself for not looking beforehand. Does anybody have any idea what I can do to actually make the windage adjustment usable? Replacement or at least a better way to turn it? Otherwise a pretty good scope will be useless.

    back to bone stock.
just so you know. leupold has an awesome warranty dept.

i bet they fix it for free. my brother sent a scope in..they didnt ask for proof of purchase or anything.

a guy actually called him and asked if he wanted his reticle updated to something newer..for a few bucks.

    i'd start there.

Agree on that. That's why if you find a good deal on any used Leopold you can grab it with confidence.

Contact them and they will fix it for you. Usually even if they know it was was the owner's fault, from what I hear.

    Sorry you got screwed.
Leupold is known far and wide for replacing all of their defective scopes.
    That's why I don't own any Leupolds.
Send it back and get your replacement.

The exact opposite seems to be widely known around my area.

Strange...The two posts above mine suggest replacing defective scopes is pretty common.
The interwebs are littered with stories of Leupold's awesome replacements.

OK, sorry I may have misread your point. I've not heard of many incidences of Leupolds being defective from the factory. The opposite is true. What I meant is their lifetime guarantee is solid no matter if you are not the original purchaser. And I'v heard many accounts of them fixing them free after the owner dropped and broke it. No questions asked.

Definitely send it in. My dad was climbing out of a deerstand one night and a limb broke and his rifle with a leupold hit the ground. He sent it back to them and fixed it for free
