How is the legroom in the back of a double cab? For both kids and adults. I’ve only owned cars and an explorer and I’m going thinking of going with a Tacoma for my first truck next year.

I haven’t test drove one yet but am curious how they compare to a mid or full size sedan in regards to legroom. Obvoiouslt a full size truck (F150, Tundra, etc) would have more but hoping it’s somwhat decent in the Taco.

    Thanks for the replies. Chris.

    Go sit in one?

I'm 6'2", doesn't work for me. Also doesn't work when Im in a front seat and a rear facing car seat is behind me.

I now have 4Runners and a crew cab F-150. Can practically do jumping jacks in the Ford haha.

Center console divider thingy, rubber bed mat and side steps for the wife.
With the front seats all the way back, the rear seats are pretty much useless as seats.

Great for little kids. So so for four adults going a short distance across town. Perfect for two adults up front and my dog in the back seat.

If you are 5,10 or above it's uncomfortable. But then again this is a mid size truck. Not a Full size truck. So one has to set his expectations that it will be cramped in the back for a small truck, or get a Tundra or Ford F-150.

Taco is nowhere near tundra or F150. I'm 5'5" and seat behind myself just alright, if seat all the way back I could not seat there for long. I always ride alone on taco and I have Venza as vacation vehicle.

It's tough if you have two decent sized people in the front and try to put grown people in the back, it entails basically the passenger having to move there seat up a lot to an uncomfortable position to make room in the back. Normally for me it'll just be me and a friend up front and one person in the back who usually sits in the middle anyway so it doesn't bother us too much. I don't have a wife and kids yet but a tacoma would be a tough choice if you had child seats but I've seen some members on the forums fit the car seats pretty well

I would assume there's little difference between the 2nd and 3rd gens. My 16 and 10 year olds fit nicely back there. My wife has ridden back there a few times (she's 5'4").

I'm exactly 6' tall. I've sat back there a few times with the front seat all the way back. My knees just touched the seat....but nothing that was uncomfortable.

If you need any "selling" on the DC, go sit in the jump seats in an AC. There's no comparison. You can actually survive, in relative comfort, on a long trip in the DC. Not going to happen in the AC

I'm 6' and fairly comfortable in the back, but I have short legs. I have three Jr High kids and I'll say it's good for two in the back seat for long rides, three are fine just driving around town.

If you are looking for a mid size truck, that can carry stuff, kids, pets, and occasional adults in the back seat, that gets 19-23mpg on the freeway, that has amazing reliability, unmatched re sale, and unmatched factory off-road capability in its class... the Tacoma is the one for you. I will argue anyone, anytime on all the above points. This truck cannot be compared to an f150 or tundra crewmax, sorry.. different class of trucks.

You want a big cab, wide, can haul a lot, betTER mpgs.... go with the f150. If you want reliability, resale, can haul a lot, tons of room (crew max) and mpg isn’t a factor for you.. Tundra.

    My .02 :)

I believe there is very little, If ANY difference in the amount of legroom between Gen 2 and 3.....

yep. I agree. cannot compare full size. I like mid-size just because I am 55 and just wife and I. We have no grand kids and our son lives in Fl and is in his 30s. Plus we have my wifes tourareg if needed plus we kept our 04gx 460 lexus also but really 99% of time it is me by myself commuting to work or her running around during the day by herself. I not longer have a big bass boat and no longer tournament fish so big is not needed and overkill. Although my 15 tundra crew max 4x4 was sure comfy but too big.

Ive had 3 adults in the back seat. Im 6'3" and have sat in the back. The driver and passenger MUST move forward for it too work but it is doable. Wouldnt suggest a cross country road trip but an hour or so would be tolerable.

My family of four did a 5 hour coastal loop drive this past Saturday.

My wife is like 5'6 and road shotgun, with my son 16 @ 5'11 behind her. I'm 5'11" and my 5'6" 20 yr old daughter behind me.

Both kiddos said the ride was really comfortable back there for the whole trip. And my daughter is really picky (go figure).

I'm 6' and my kids are both 6' and taller, normally I drive with the seat all the way back, but when one of them is behind me, I slide the seat up, same with my wife when she is sitting in the front. Not a lot of room in the back for anyone. But if you can make it work, then it's ok. Raised my kids in the back of a 2001 ORDC, no one complained and we had lots of memories stuffed in the truck :)

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yep will plan on sitting in one to see how I feel. I think that my wife will probably think there isn’t that much room in the back, but as of now we only have a toddler and we don’t drive adults in our current vehicles that often. Plus if we do we can use her Venza. And I’m only 5’11 and she’s 5’0 so we aren’t giants So I don’t foresee it an issue, but like I said I haven’t been in it yet.

The back seat is fine. I am 5-11 and have two adults back there plenty of times and never heard complaints. I have had two toddler car seats and a ~65lb lab mix dog, tight, but doable.

5'11" and it's fine, not too cramped at all, i'd say two people could sit comfortably. Kids could always just jump in the bed :goingcrazy:

I'm 6'2", and sat in the back drivers side seat with the drivers seat all the way back. After that exercise, I actually wrote off the Tacoma without even test driving it. Having second thoughts, I brought my wife back to the dealer with me, and she was fine in the back seat with the drivers seat moved forward a bit. I actually left the lot for several reasons when I first looked at the Tacoma, but after going back and actually test driving it, I was sold.
