No mods as of yet other than the fact that it is lifted. I just purchased the vehicle, so I am eager to see what everyone is doing with their rigs!
I took my Tacoma in for a warranty on the U-joints, and the dealership told me the left and right valve cover gasket is leaking. I change my oil every 3,000 miles, and I haven’t noticed a change in the oil level.

The stealership wants charge me $2,000 for the repair. I am by no means a mechanic, but I am somewhat mechanically inclined. Is this a project I can do by myself, or is it even really necessary to do it?

Open hood and check. If so clean, tighten and then monitor. My 08 leaks a bit on the front bottom of the passenger side but it's nothing to worry about.

$2000 for valve cover leaks? Effing crooks! Sure its not an estimate for timing chain cover? Many hour job hence high dollar value.
Valve covers can be done in half a day by someone mechanicaly inclined such as yourself. Not a difficult job.

I looked it up, and I had the same thought. I am pretty sure they mean the timing chain cover. Which looks much more involved, but they said the left and right valve covers.

I think it seeps rather than leaks because the oil level doesn’t noticeably change between oil changes.

There was a waranty/ recall on the timing chain cover leaking (the factory didn't properly seal it properly), but I believe the warranty ran out before I even purchased the vehicle...
