I just put a down payment on a topper yesterday that the shop actually had in stock. Going in to get it installed tomorrow. I was thinking about having them install the Thule tracker roof rack system, but it seems like this is typically a factory install. Dealer said he could do it though.
Do you think dealer can do this correctly? I've seen a couple horror stories where water leaked into the shell after having a roof rack installed. Is that a pretty common problem? I spent a lot on this topper so I don't wanna fuck it up, ya know? Sounds like the topper manufacturers don't have very good customer service either, so I'd probably be shit outta luck if it did leak.

Let me know what y'all think!

The factory doesn't do anything special that I can see on mine. Just drill through and use silicone.
If you don't need the adjustability of the track, just go for a fixed point install. The Thule and Yakima feet for the track are as expensive or more expensive than a fix point mount.

GET A PRICE! Its not hard to do and you can get the necessary stuff from Thule if you call them. It's pretty cheap, buddy got tracks and hardware for like $100ish and then you just need feet and bars, or better yet, a PrInSu! Weight your options and do what works for you!

    Thanks for the feedback!

Dealer quoted $400 I think. Looks like the rack system new is $300, so that's not bad. I figure that $100 will save me at least a few hours of planning/procuring/installing, so probably worth it. Might see if he can add it last minute.

Check to see if dealer will guarantee their work.

For only $400 I would tell him to take your money. I just ordered a Leer and I think my tracks alone were a $190 option

When I ordered my Leer 100XQ I discussed the roof rack with my dealer. He said its better to have Leer do the install because they sometimes deny certain warranty claims if anyone drills into the shell for accessory racks.

I had my dealer call and ask if Leer could just install tracks without any towers or crossbars since I already had a lot of Thule roof rack parts from previous vehicles.

Leer charged $199 for the rails only so I went with that. I could have installed my own tracks but $199 is pretty cheap and I didn't have to spend an afternoon dicking around with it.

If you got $400 for the whole system, jump on it. If it is $400 just for the track, pass. IMO

If you do it, you void the warranty. If the dealer does it, it may not. Or at least they'd have to ensure their work.

Had Leer install mine when I ordered it. It still leaked.

My bad... dealer wanted $590 for Thule rack and install. So, it looks like I'll be doing this myself. That's damn near highway robbery!

Hey @A-Zedosky where are you having the work done? A&A? I just had them install mine today. LEER 100XR w carpet headliner and basic features for $1990 installed out the door. A little high but they had it in stock so I got it immediately. Worth an extra $100 or so for me.
How much are you paying for just the tracks? Maybe I'll do that and just find a used rack. Bummed they tried to ream me so hard. Didn't seem interested in negotiating at all.
