Leer doesn't even pretend to want business....

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
To start - I am a repeat Leer buyer (and a four-time Tacoma owner). I had a Leer 100XQ on my 2016 Tacoma. I also had a 100XQ on my current 2015 Tacoma Access Cab. The current truck topper had some significant damage, so I decided to order a new replacement. That was 2 month's ago (and $1000 deposit). When I placed the order, I was told the order would take between 4 and 8 weeks. Fast forward 2 months, and no contact from Leer or my dealer, I decided to call and ask what's up? The person at my Leer dealer fumbled around, put me on hold for awhile, then told me they'd call me back. After not hearing from them, I called once again. I was again put on hold and promised a callback. After awhile, I got a call explaining that Leer was not fulfilling my order, per the Leer rep, because "they don't make a 100XQ for a 2015 Tacoma." Funny - since I literally have pics of a 100XQ on my current truck. The dealer repeatedly said how sick they were of Leer and tired of dealing with them. Yeah right. My gut tells me it's the dealer who dropped the ball on this -- but on the flip side, Leer has had zero interest in contacting me or returning my emails. The just don't care.

The point is - I'm still in need of a new truck shell. I'm wondering if anyone on this thread has any inside info with Leer (or perhaps works for Leer)? Anyone had any issues ordering from them lately?

I know there are other camper shell options, but the 100XQ has always been my favorite as far as looks go. I guess it's time to go back to the drawing board and look at other brands.....

Maybe they stopped making the 100XQ for 2015s?

Anyway, looks like it is time to look elsewhere.

If Leer is still sitting on your deposit, ask for interest. :D:evil:

Looks like it’s just a crappy dealer. This is straight from the Leer site. Took me about 42 seconds.

Exactly. Either the dealer sucks, or Leer sucks for the lack of contact/follow-up. I know most ARE buyers seems to be happy. Will start looking there.

It sounds like your dealer is the issue here and I'd demand a full refund. FWIW Leer, Century and Snugtop are all under the same umbrella now and owned by an investment group. I ordered my Century a week before WuFlu hit and it took 3 months to arrive. They have three factories and the west coast one was closed in March so they shuttled my order to one of the other plants. My dealer said they were still 2 months behind when I picked up my shell in mid-June. The dealer kept in contact with me during the process which helped.

Pissed at leer when bought a special order cap for my 07. Toolbox on drivers side came keyed different from rear door. I specifically stated they were to be the same. I complained and they said too bad. That was my last leer cap.

All the cap companies are shit. That’s why I don’t have one.

yessss just put mine on. But no security which is why I assume someone would prefer a shell.

I’d definitely say your dealer dropped the ball big time. Ultimately they’re the one who needs to get with Leer and get the order filled.

I have always had good dealings with ARE in the past.
The only reason I have a Leer now is because I got it used for 325$. I've tried to contact Leer several times about some parts and have had no response. It's well built at least, customer service is rubbish though.
If I ever locate a good used ARE locally I'll swap it for the Leer hands down.

Two Leers, one on my older 2006 and now on my 2014. Really good dealer close to me. Got all of the goodies I wanted, fold down front window (free promotional), carpeted interior, inside roof net, and Thule rack. All factory installed. Sorry about your troubles OP...Hope it works out one way or another.

I've bought 2 Leer caps for my 08 over the years (one damaged in an accident), and from my experience this sounds like a dealer issue to me.

The Leer dealer closest to me is a PITA and typically only wants commercial business. They impression I get is they don't like dealing with average Joe walk-in customers. I choose to drive 1 hr away to another Leer dealer that's a small family business, and I got treated like a king and got better pricing.

No to hijack this thread, but I have always wondered why people get a hard shell. Seems to me, that since you can't use the bed anymore (without removal) for bulk items & "truck stuff" it might just be simpler to get a vehicle like SUV. I did have one once on a Datsun Pickup (remember those?) with a front window. The dog I had at the time would ride in the bed and could stick his head through the window into the cab. Something like a 4 runner would be just as capable as the truck, so why not just do that instead?

You can always pull the cap off and use the bed if needed, with some creativity it's pretty easy too.

Because the volume of storage between a 4runner cargo area and Tacoma with a camper shell isn't even comparable.
