I just had my new Leer 100 XQ installed on my 2023 truck, and noticed that the 4 bolted connections to the bed just seem a little inadequate, all things considered. I have also read of some people having issues with these caps shifting under moderate to heavy use due to these weak connections. Therefore, I've been looking for some clamps that I could add just to be safe, maybe two on each side, but the only ones I can find don't seem to work with 3rd gen Tacomas. Does anybody know of any options that will work? Also, is this more of a non-issue than I'm making it out to be? Thanks for the help.

The questions section says these don’t work on 3rd Gen Tacoma’s.

Did you ask the Leer dealer? They should know best, if installing caps is what they do.
I also have a 100XQ and there's only 4 bolts holding it down. They're drilled through the cap into some kind of extended T-nut in the rail. It seems fine to me but I don't do any crazy driving. Do yours look like this or do you have clamps?

You should be checking them periodically. I had to retighten one bolt a few months after the install was done. They've been fine ever since. I've been meaning to add locking hardware but haven't gotten around to it.

I had a Leer 180 on my Tacoma for about 8 years. It was only attached with the 4 bolts (utilizing T nuts in the bed track). I had a rack on top and did a lot of off-road travel to remote hunting/fishing spots with a canoe on the roof. The cap never moved/shifted.

What torque spec did your Leer dealer tell you to follow on the four Leer factory mounts?

My Leer dealer could not even get the topper on in the correct position let alone tighten it down properly.

yes, mine look exactly like that. What sort of locking hardware were you thinking? There’s not enough clearance between the end of the bolts and the bottom of the bed rails to get a nylock nut to fit, and the bolt heads on top don’t sit flush with the washers (as you can see in your photo) to where some sort of lock washer might otherwise work. The entire connection just seems shitty to me.

Torque specs, lol. I did say should know best, I didn't say they always do. I went to a smaller shop. Their quote was about $600 less than CapWorld, but I ended up getting what I paid for. They couldn't even wire the remote lock even after I told them to just tap into the remote tailgate lock wiring. I'm lucky the brake light works. Cap leaks like a bitch, too.

Well those would have been my two ideas. Guess the only other option would be loctite if you think it's necessary. I agree it's not the best system, but like I said it seems to work fine.

here is a link (i hope...) to clamps i purchased from ebay so that i could better secure my ARE canopy. i have owned at least 4-5 different canopies in my life on different trucks and two clamps on each side were never enough to secure it. i do not off road but use by truck for work and the occasional forest service road. without additional clamps they all moved.

i recall one canopy on a truck with a 8 foot bed required i put bolts through the bed rails. they all required either locking nuts or thread locker of some type to keep them from coming loose.
