Was curious as to if anybody has made a lock for when they are camping on the inside from anyone on the outside trying to turn the handles to the open position?

I intend to do this along with a drawer system in the near future. I just have to find the time and energy. So if when I do eventually get around to it, you don't have a solution, I will send you what I come up with. Currently I am planning on just locking one side of my canopy hatch, probably with a latch that connects to and prevents the outside handle from being turned.

Exactly you get me lol. I’ve camped out a couple of times now and it just annoys me that I cannot lock the latch is from the inside.

If I were doing something like this, I would do something like weld a washer onto the rod and bolt a couple tabs to the window frame. Then just drop a pin through the holes. You don’t want something with a key where you have to fumble around for the key in the dark, if you have to get out in an emergency.

I have a single knob in the middle, with a lock, on the inside are cables the twisting knob pull to release the latches. If I lock the knob, I can pull the cables from the inside to release it, but I have to make sure I don’t leave my keys in it, because if I shut it, the knob will still remain locked until I use the key to unlock it.

Ya this is the entire reason I even bought a handgun. Why lock the only way in/out of a small space? I'm not even a big guy and I couldnt fit through the window if I had that option

I just installed a pop n lock key lock and the corresponding automated lock. You could lock the truck while inside etc. it also has an emergency lever to unlock from inside.

It’s a bit pricey(i think around 180 with the lock). I integrated it with my tailgate pop n lock so now my canopy and tailgate are locked when the car is locked. I plan to insert a switch somewhere to disable the lock incl case some breaks into my vehicle and unlocks the rear where I keep most stuff.

If you want more specifics lmk.

Canopy, fitted seat covers, OBA with self leveling air bags, 100w solar, dual Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, side & rear LED work/FU lights, CB, cell booster. 7x16 cargo conversion, 3" lift, 7'x6.5' fold down aluminum rear deck.
Install a remote start with lock/unlock feature. Press button and topper locks/unlocks with rest of truck. Canopy should have an emergency release incase you need to get out in a hurry.

I have an ARE and if it's locked I can still get out from the inside. Does Leer not have that feature? The only time I lock it when I'm sleeping in it is if I'm at a rest stop or gas station

I'm a simpleton, for years now I've just used a loop of paracord looped over the locking bars then connected to one of the internal tie downs with one of those cheap aluminum key-chain carabiners. If you're really paranoid about someone slipping a knife in and cutting it you could use a short length of steel cable from Lowes/HD. The only time I put the loop on it is when I'm in a truck stop or something like that.

Alternately, you could just pop rivet a couple of small L brackets to both the window frame and the shell frame and slide a pin or keychain carabiner through the holes. Ex. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbil...ERCH=REC-_-pipsem-_-202033892-_-202034303-_-N
It's not like it has to be super secure, you'll wake up if someone start rattling it or tugging on it.

Do you not have a release on the inside of your canopy? I have a Leer with the single handle in the middle, and I can lock that and then close it from the inside and it stays locked. Then there is a release cable I pull to open it up and get out.

I think hes got the cheaper T handles down in each corner of the window.

One reason i like my bed stiffeners is all the holes in them. Put a carabiner (or 2) from the top hole on the bed stiffener to the latch bar on the inside of the glass

Yeah judging by his photo it has two t handles. Can’t do the auto lock/unlock with those.
Easiest solution is a carabiner and paracord or similar.
