    Hey all,

Does anyone know if battery-powered LED Pods exist? When I say battery powered, I'm talking AA, AAA, 9V, that have their own on/off switch on the pod itself. I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything .

I am looking for battery powered to avoid having to wire up lights to a cabin switch for something that I'll only use during camping trips. Being able to pull out an LED pod, when needed, flip it on, and illuminate our campsite would be perfect. The idea is to attach them to my RTT rack when needed, and remove when done.

You could always use a headlamp....

Any AA, AAA lamp isnt going to put off much light. Buy a head lamp or a lantern.

Yeah, and I already have those. Didn't know if there was an easy kill on this one outside of the headlamp. I'll keep shopping around, or just wire some up

    Check these out.

I have a couple and I'm really happy with them. Really great for camping. Love that it's waterproof and has a built in magnet. Rechargeable through a USB, so not battery powered like what you're looking for but has a long battery life and easily recharged in the field.

These look perfect! I didn't even consider rechargeable, but that fits what I need more than battery powered. Thanks for the info! I'll definitely be picking one up!

I think you'll be happy with them. They suit my needs perfectly, I've found many uses for them.

Depends on what level output you're running (three different light output levels, plus a strobe setting). On low close to 4 hours continuous, on medium about an hour and on high probably 30 minutes. Never tested the length of time on strobe. For most uses I find the low setting to be adequate (however I often use both of mine in tandem so double the light output).

So running the two at low level gives enough output for a campsite? That would be ideal

Oh yeah, plenty. If my truck is right next to my site I've placed them along the body of the truck using the magnets to light up the site. I also have small tripods that attach to the lights to get them off the deck 6"-8" inches or up off a camping table.

Right on! I've also used them under the truck when doing maintenance/repair in the dark and attached the them to the tailgate for serious back up lights when backing out of really tight trails that ended up being dead ends. You'll find that there are tons of uses for them and virtually unlimited use when you start exploring different GoPro and camera tripod mounts.

That's definitely a huge help. The magnet will help a lot because I'll just power them on and stick them to my KB Voodoo rails. All done, without having to wire anything to the bed or setup any switches

i have a couple pods wired to my bed bars, i just added a quick disconnect in the bed of my truck so that i can remove the bed bars and lights together. This to me was the easiest way.

I also have 2 of these...

18v battery or they can be plugged into and outlet. I have double cap batteries, these will run for about 2 hours on a double cap.

These are huge and cast a ton of light!

That should work perfectly! I don't think you'll be disappointed with the purchase. I'm a big fan of mine.

So I did end up getting these, two of the long ones, and I'll be putting them to the test this week at the Grand Canyon. I also bought two of these from Costco this weekend. Magnetic and battery powered, two for $20, and the output is solid. Will update this thread with a camp setup photo showing them in use.
