I wired 2 ditch lights up with wiring harness, the lights work with the button, the problem is the button stays lit all the time. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks

You have the button wired up directly to the battery or fuse box. You need to wire it up from a source the turns on/off with the engine. You might need a relay.

So I'm gonna try without photos sorry,
I have a red and black hooked to the battery, runs to a relay, and a fuse off the relay, the wires run to each of my Dutch lights. And the. Wired it to the switch, the switch had a green wire,a black wire and 2 red/pink with orange stripes. The harness had one black with two leads, one red with two leads and one white singular. Idk if that helps explain what's going on thanks for the reply

I wired the green to the white, the black to black and the red to one of the pink/red with orange stripes. Like I mentioned everything works just not sure why light wont go off.

Hard to go off of just wore colors. You need to wire the light that illuminates the switch to tap off of a wire that is powered when the lights are on. I used a volt meter to find one. Forgot what color I used though

You need to wire the relay from a source that turns off and on with the engine. A voltmeter would be helpful. Check for power with the ignition off then on. Use that source to power the relay.

Power pin 86 to an ignition source. Is it just connected to the battery +?

Did you install a relay? Seems like you used an “always hot” line which you shouldn’t be doing. Where is your power coming from?

Try swapping the connections on the Green/Red wires from the switch. Leave the BLK/RED alone. You're giving constant hot to the light inside the switch.

The GRN feeds 12V into the switch, when turned on, the circuit continues onto the RED wire. The switch will work for the item wired after it the same (circuit closed), however you are giving the light a constant 12v vs. only lighting up when the switch is engaged.

This is supposed to be/should be a low amperage 12v that feeds only the draw of the light inside the switch and the relay itself.

One of the red wires is for the switch to light up, get an add a fuse and run that wire to the fuse box for the light that controls your switch illumination. Either that or tap the red wire into the green wire coming off the switch that controls the bed lights. I don’t like tapping wires which is why I went add a fuse

I’ll try and get a pic tonight and verify which wire goes to which. If not tonight, in the morning.

Read through these threads and reference the schematics below. Unless you have a short or faulty piece of equipment, it’s all pretty basic.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...lights-rear-footwell-bed-map-and-dome.520355/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wiring-toyota-push-buttons-for-led.536925/

During your install, wire management is key. Pretty wires are happy wires, happy wires are easy to trace when they don’t work. BUT happy wires almost always work.

Run your switch ground to a ground in the kick panel, your light and relay ground to the fender where the battery is grounded.

Green switch wire to something like the cigarette lighter with a fuse tap.

Red 1 to your relay (pin 85)

Red 2 to an acc powered fuse with a fuse tap.

Pin 30 for the relay goes to your battery.

Thank you very much Shane I see you don't use the connector that comes with the harness i think thats my mistake you straight up connect it to the relay harness ill try this however is it necessary to tap in to another wire with that second red wire from the switch or can i leaves as is ?

That’s just an example. I use the harness, see pic below. Also note the color coordination. Numbering or color coding will make your life much easier during the install and tracing future issues. Personally I like to use heat shrink connectors, also matching the ends if I reasonably can based off wire gauge. Maybe it’s my OCD but it makes things easier in the long run.

I would tap separately (red 2) just to eliminate potential current or future issues. I try to follow whatever wire schematics the manufacturer recommends.

Honestly the best thing you can do is dig into the threads. So much to learn here on TW. With the breath of info and members, there’s bound to be an expert(s) in every subject.

No worries. It’s nice to actually help someone, rather then just making smartass comments all the time!
