Well if you want real fog lights, prolly yes. I switched to Baja Designs squadron fogs.

Take a look at our Xtreme LED and Philips LED bulbs:

    194 LED Bulbs

    3022 LED Festoon Bulbs

I wasn't able to find one from a Tacoma but here's one from a 4runner:

If you switch of the TRD Pro Rigid LEDs for the aftermarket Rigid LED SAE Fog Pod, then yes. The aftermarket Rigid pod is much brighter. I had both and compared them side-by-side.

Note that Baja Designs doesn't make real fog lights. I've had the squadrons as well. Their lights are off road only with no cut off which are not well suited for fog and should not be used on the street with oncoming traffic. Great lights for the trail or in areas where high beam use would be acceptable. So really depends on the use case your are building for. Their build quality is top notch.

Fog lights... when in fog don't need cutoff they are lighting up the road in front of truck and side of road so you don't run into a ditch in the fog.

My Squadron Squadron Sport WC are 2200 lumens. My high & lo beams are 6000 lumens each. They are fine for driving around town with these fogs on and they will not blind oncoming traffic. Plus they are made specifically for 3rd Gen with a special housing.

Not sure about your argument @crashnburn - on the 1 hand saying the Squadrons are not real fogs but on the other hand you are saying the Rigid LED SAE fog pods are much brighter!!???

That doesn't make any sense! In FOG you wanna light up the road directly in front of the truck since visibility can be only a few feet in FOG. Bright lights are not the answer for FOG. Ever try high beams in FOG?? G/L with that.

You are not understanding the beam patterns.

You do need cut offs, otherwise the light bounces off the fog and reflects back at you, the driver, causing you to see the fog and not what is beyond it. Without cut offs it is effectively driving in fog with your high beams on. Fogs are tight vertical cut offs, with a wide horizontal spread of light.

Again beam pattern. Wide cornering squadron sports are effectively a high beam. They are wide horizontal and vertical. Being vertically wide blinds others as the light pattern is aimed into the windshields of oncoming traffic. Being vertically wide, aiming them down does not fix the problem. Your headlights aim the light down out of the eyes of oncoming traffic, so it is not an equivalent comparison. The pods have adapter plates, the pod lights themselves are universal.

I've posted this before but here is a 1760 lumen Rigid SAE fog pod (right) vs a 1800 lumen BD Squadron wide cornering pod (left). The wide cornering pods has no cut off and is extremely blinding. The Rigid pod maintains tight vertical cut offs and actually puts out more light in the fog area while the BD pod distributes the light everywhere, meaning much less light in the fog area and more light everywhere else outside fog area. From ~25' the BD pod lights up the 3rd story of my house while the Rigid pod keeps the beam 2' off the ground. Again both these lights are nearly equal in output, what you are seeing here is purely beam pattern.

    MB+oQVutSd+Aeu%eJuukVA.jpg

Bright does not mean high beam. Bright means greater luminous intensity, more power to penetrate fog while maintaining the same beam pattern. The BD lights are effectively a high beam as shown above, which as you acknowledge is not what you want to run in fog. The Rigid SAE fog pods keep the exact same beam pattern as the TRD Pro LED fogs, but turn up the intensity 2.9x. Massively brighter while maintaining the sharp cut off so all the light is directed to fog penetration and none of it bounces back at the driver, or blinds oncoming drivers.

As I've mentioned before, BD makes outstanding products, some of my favorite pod designs. But people misunderstand the beam patterns and application, often confusing that any pod mounted in the OEM fog light position is acceptable for street/fog use when that is not the case.

I understand what you are saying so @Rob Daman did a you tube vid on the very lights I'm talking about. These are for the 2016+ Tacoma Baja Deisgns Squadron Sport WC wide angles FOG lights. Here's a youtube vid - if you wanna just skip to the 6 minute mark and watch the goodness happen. He compares the Squadron Sport WC to LED fogs and you can see there's a cut off (proper for the street in fog or otherwise) and also see where these lamps actually light up the side of the road where your LEDs do not.

    Here's the VID

    Hey thanks for posting!

I love these lights. The yellow pops nicely on dark roads.

To clarify they're not DOT legal but if you point them down enough they won't have nearly the glare as the oem fogs with a drop in LED bulb.

I've passed by law enforcement all the time with no issues and I'm in SoCal where they love fixit tickets.

Drop in LEDs are not a legitimate replacement option for the fogs as they scatter light everywhere, so not really the best comparison. And while I have tried literally every single LED fog for the Tacoma, I don't run them.

In the video, at 7:00, it shows the Baja lights blind the passing by car as it is casting shadows over the cars roof line to the wall behind it. Which is exactly what I was talking about in blinding other drivers. When the headlights are turned on the cut off is near the ground where the cars wheels are, showing just how bad the light is above what should be the cut off horizon, and the fogs should have lower cut offs than the headlights.

A Rigid SAE fog pod will have sharp cut offs a very wide beam pattern and provide more light on the road than WC while not blinding anyone.

Has anyone seen someone mount a pod light in this area. Staring at my truck I think it would be pretty cool. Or even drilling into the roof rack and installing a round pod light of some sort so it looks part of the rack itself. B81AF2FA-2784-4DFC-9D6D-D35AC3CDBE5C.jpg

New to the 3rd gen what's a good low beam and fog light LED set up. Just wanting to ditch this yellow. I've been reading some seen a lot of different opinions and options. Also license plate lights got to get rid of that yellow as well.

That's an interesting idea. There are brackets that attach to the roof rack for light bars but I've never seen pods up there.

The last 6 or 7 posts have been some great discussions about fog lights.

There are a couple camps on what's best. I personally run Morimoto XB and I'm happy with the cutoff, beam width and color (white, not yellow). We do get some fog here, and at times it's thick enough to force you to turn on your wipers. We also see snow and some serious rain. I have not had any problems yet in any of these conditions.

As far as the lows go, there are two favorites currently. The Hikari Philips Lumiled and the Xenon Depot Pro Extreme. Each has it's own unique features and either will satisfy your needs.

I recently switched from the Hikari's to the Xenon Depot bulbs. I'm completely satisfied.

If you were to ask, I'd say to go Xenon Depot.

I'm using Hikari license plate bulbs too.

There are a lot of great posts and reviews here. I know it's a lot to go through but you're only benefiting yourself if you take the time to understand which bulbs are best for you.

There are links for all of these at the bottom of the thread.

I've got some pretty lengthy reviews in this thread with pictures too.

Ok I received my kits today and I'm confused yet again. There is no mention of the anti-flicker modules in the instructions and no mention or pics in the installation instructions on the site or the linked review in this thread so I'm left to try to figure it out. Searched videos on YouTube and there are no videos that actually show the connections. Is this the correct sequence of connections? I'm assuming the only remaining plug not used goes to the stock harness? Thanks in advance.
