I have a 2018 Tacoma and am looking for LED headlight bulb recommendations. Looked at GTR Ultra 2.0 and they are 3900 lm. I'm thinking that might be a little too bright. The dealer sold me some RS bulbs. They were 2250 lm and are not bright enough.

Good read ZMan2k2. Looks like I should stick with the H11 bulbs, but find ones that are brighter than stock.

This is the best option. LEDs look cool and all, but the pattern they produce is not as good as the OEM.

Here you can see the pattern in the pitting on my headlight lens. Notice the giant black out in the middle? These are the hikari bulbs that get much praise for their quality.

Yes. Though this is the correct thread for 3rd Gen. The specific GTR bulbs you were looking at are covered in post #3 and are terrible, among the worst in the thread. Performance halogens in halogen assemblies beat out LEDs which lack focus and are not optically compatible with halogens, regardless of what the vendor may try to sell you on.

LED's looked like crap in mine. I changed to HID's and they look great. Nice bright full pattern with a crisp cutoff. Adjusted them properly and I've never one had someone flash me in the years of running them.

Thanks. Excellent read. I guess the recommendation at this point would be to go with either the XD Philips HID, the GE +130 H11 or the Philips H9.

HIDs are not recommended. Halogen projectors allow uplight, aka light above the cut off. This is calibrated for halogen output. Putting HIDs in the halogen projectors produces excessive uplight, aka glare to oncoming drivers. To run HIDs you should look at a proper HID retrofit with quality OEM HID projectors like that from an RX350. But at that point you might as well look at the OEM LED headlights.

Order of best performance recommendations to date:
    1) OEM LED headlight swap
    2) Philips H9 in low beam
    3) Tungsram Platinum H11

Thanks for the recommendations crashnburn80. I'll narrow my focus into options 2 and 3.

after my vehicle fire a few weeks ago, i'm hesitant to do any aftermarket electrical mods. guess i'm paranoid now. will have to wait until i get a fire extinguisher.
