Im considering replacing my interior lights, liscence plate lights, and 3rd brake light bulbs with LED's. Iv never replaced the bulbs on the 3rd brake light before on anything, and was wondering if it is even worth doing or if it is noticably brighter? Iv seen the entire fixtures that you can buy with leds already in them, but i just want to change bulbs. Anybodey have any comments on whether it is even worth doing?

The 3rd brake lights are noticeably brighter when you replace with leds.

I did mine with LEDs from superbrightleds.com. They look a lot brighter with the LEDs. I got my license plate bulbs from there as well.

    http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=/mini-wedge.html

3rd brake light bulbs I used..the 4th one down on this page is listed as "
WLED Miniature Wedge Base bulbs with High Power SMD LEDs - 360 type",go to that one and choose the WLED-xHP9-T in red.

License Plate lights I used are the same listing..4th one down, again choose the
WLED Miniature Wedge Base bulbs with High Power SMD LEDs - 360 type and then choose WLED-xHP5 in cool white.I would have rather used the 9LED bulbs but they don't fit.

With LEDs you want to match the bulb color to the lens color for the brightest result (unless the lens is clear). Otherwise, the lens will filter out a lot of the light.

Replaced all my interior and exterior bulbs with LED ( including headlights ) - MUCH cleaner look, much brighter and easy to do- well worth the money- I went with the 6K color. Nice bright white, tons more interior light - I purchased mine off Amazon OPT7 brand-

Got my 3rd brake lights fro csjumper. He's replaced just about every light on the truck for me with LEDs. He has different brightness options. Will probably be a bit more expensive than eBay but he has good stuff and stands by his product

I believe you can google "Clearz" Tacoma 3rd brake light- you get the clear lens & 3 red LED bulbs for around 60-75$- clean look and light output is bright and red- matches the factory LED taillights great.

I used 3 LED bulbs made by Jam Strait. Autozone had them cheap. Very bright and will throw a spot on a wall (without the tail light lens on)

They have four 5mm LEDs facing forward which concentrates all the light in one direction. The LED bulbs you see with chips all over the bulb are great if you want a more diffused light pattern like the original bulbs.

Hahahaha I have a real problem purchasing from someone that can't spell "BRAKE" light. :)

No offense o0oSHADOWo0o but those LEDs are crap. You need to get LEDs with 5630 diodes in them, they put out about 45 lumens or so apiece as opposed to those Autozone ones that only put out around 5-10 lumens. Don't take my word for it, go here:

    http://heracolights.com/2014/03/10/3528-vs-5050-vs-5630-led-smd-diodes/

I would not trust my brake lights to cheap LEDs, I'm just sayin'. :notsure:

Output in lumens is relative to the angle at which the light is dispersed.

The LEDs in the bulbs I use have a narrow viewing angle (probably about 15 degrees) so most of the light is focused in one direction. This means that even with a lower total light output, they are still very bright in the direction they are aimed. They also use a design/package that is quite rugged, proven reliable and has been in use since the 1980's

The various surface mount LEDs used in multi chip bulbs and LED strips have a much wider beam pattern (typically 120 to 180 degrees) and are positioned at various points around LED bulbs so they can more closely approximate the 360 degree output of an incandescent bulb.

I prefer the highly focused pattern of the Jam Strait bulbs to the more diffused pattern of most other bulbs. No reflector is necessary if I decide to black it out. Besides, only the people behind (not to the sides of me) really need to know if I'm stopping.
