I’m looking into mud terrains instead of AT’s.

Can anyone recommend some MT tires that don’t outright scream?

    Thanks!

MT = the balder they get, the louder they scream.

KM3 are quiet for what they are. Hybrid tire like courser cxt or st maxx are also quiet but more aggressive than typical a/t.

Do you really plan to mud with them? Or just want more aggressive tread?

Cooper ST MAXX are a fantastic hybrid (part mud part AT). Not very loud.

Cooper STT PROs are more of a mud/deep snow tire and are pretty popular.

I’ve heard the new Yokohama MT is pretty quiet. Might be worth researching further.

As stated above, all mud tires get louder after about 10 K miles. So, trying to find one that’s quite for as long as possible, I’ve had Coopers MTX, was never quite, had BFG mt’s, quite to start, but.....

I’m missing something here. They are loud because they work well in mud but not in most other conditions especially snow.

My friend has toyo and loves them. I have fallen and they are doing really good. Did a decibel test vs another taco with a highway tire (I believe michelin). I know the decibel difference was 5. But I can't remember what speed and actual reading. I want to say we did roughly 60mph windows up radio off in each truck and his read 63db and mine read 68db.Also used the same phone in each test and it was placed on the arm rest of each truck.
Keep in mind that every 10db difference is twice as loud. So 70db is double that of 60db. I unfortunately do not have any comparison to any other Mt brands though. Only my falken mt to the michelin ht

Tacoma’s have a lack of road noise suppression. Even brand new my Duratracs seem way louder in my Tacoma than my Toyo MT did in my 2011 F150. If you are truly need a MT and are worried about road noise you probably should own 2 sets of tires. It’s expensive up front but your MTs will last much longer by not running them on the road all the time. ATs or street tires will last forever in comparison and get you better fuel economy at the same time. But you won’t look as cool.

It’s really because the ground where I live has a lot of clay type soil so it gets super slick after it rains.
I’ve heard AT’s are useless in the mud. I really don’t want the MT’s for looks haha I don’t have a winch yet and am looking for extra insurance.

I’ve currently been wheeling with the stock street tires deflated haha (sr5).

I go about every other weekend so I’m tbinking mud terrains would be worth it for me.

Utah has a lot of that too, and my St Maxx have done surprisingly well. Fairly quiet for the tread design too. Not an MT tire and more of an AT but I think you'd be pleased.

Hankook MT (maximum traction) are a very low noise MT tire, I’ve owned 4 to 5 sets over the years. Currently have them in 285/70/17 with about 12k miles, they sound like day one, very low road noise sound & still look great tread wise.

At tyres are not useless in the mud, the right ones are really good. The Wildpeak AT3w is one of those, the revo3 is not. Mt tyres are better in the mud but suck in majority of other environments including stopping.
And they vibrate on the street.

best in mud is tall skinny tyres as opposed to wide. You are talking clay, mt/at tyres are not going to be stellar either way. You need tracks.

Nitto Trail Grapplers are a real good choice. I will be putting a new set on my truck soon.
