I bought a pair of new Icon 2.0 series Remote Reservoir shocks several years back. I've put about 20K miles on them, and recently I noticed they were leaking oil at the attachment points for the remote reservoirs -- both at the shock end and at the reservoir end.

I pulled them off to inspect and the nuts that hold the attachment line at each end had cracked completely. The shocks have certainly not been abused. I'm not sure what "load" would cause these nuts to crack and start leaking oil -- not a mild leak -- they were pouring oil.

Anyway, thought I'd share so you guys could inspect your remote reservoir nuts (if they still use this design). Pics:

I have the RR 2.0 Icons for my 1st gen...look pretty similar to these except the reservoirs mount as a piggyback. Always been worried about leaks because I hear about it somewhat often with these but so far so good, had them on for about 20k miles and some pretty hard driving.

As installed on vehicle before I removed them. The part number on these was 5-7505 when I purchased them new. I can't find these on the Icon website anymore, so they must have changed their 2.0 series rear remote res:

Now that you mention it, mine have a black hose not a yellow/gold colored one. Not sure if the material is different, stronger, or what. But that crack in the fitting on the reservoir is concerning

I apologize for the trouble, the 2.0 Production lines were revamped and retooled years ago. They current revision had been on production for approximately 6 years now. The shocks pictures are in fact an older revision that has since been changed.

whats the warranty on the leaking shocks?, Bilstein has a Lifetime replacement due to manufacturing failures, this doesn't look at all as the owners abusing them just normal usage at only 20k miles on them

    Yes and no.

You have to take off the shock, ship it to Bilstein to be inspected and approved, then pay for shipping for a new shock (if approved). When I was looking into this, seemed like an awful lot of people got denied for warranty coverage, and then offered a discount on a new replacement.

By the time you ship in a bad shock, ship back a new shock, you could’ve bought one on Amazon and not been inconvenienced for 3 weeks.

I honestly wasn't posting for warranty reasons because I have no idea what, if any, warranty the shocks were covered. But my honest opinion is that this was a manufacturing defect and a design flaw.

I would at least contact ICON and find out what warranty recourse u have then weigh in the cost of shipping options against the total cost of buying new shocks as a replacement u never know if they want to keep happy customers they may help u out some, its definetly a design/failure on their part

What are your plans with the shocks? Rebuild yourself?

No plans as yet. I lack the knowledge, tools, and experience to rebuild these shocks. If you want them, make me an offer. They were advertised as for up to a 3" lift. I can provide measurements. The only reason I'd hold on to them is if Icon wanted me to return them for warranty purposes. As an Icon rep has already posted in this thread, I'll let them comment regarding any warranty.

Oh I don’t need them, thank you for the offer.

However, since we live in the same state, maybe I can help you. Why not order a rebuild kit, oil, and I have the N2 charge kit. You can get a new hose made.

I have seal kits in stock for those old 2.0's and can build a new hose no problem. PM if you want to move FWD with rebuilding them.
