Leaking Oil Drain Plug after Oil Change

2017 SR5 V6 2WD. Had an oil change at a local shop and it appears my drain plug is now leaking. Oil was changed about 3-4 weeks ago. Used 0w20 Castrol Edge full synthetic as I always have with this truck. I checked the tightness on the drain plug and it is definitely secure on there. Oil level per dip stick appears to be fine. Leak seems minor.

What can cause this to happen? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but I don't have the ability to do an oil change in the parking lot of my condo complex. Any ideas or suggestions?

Does the third gen have a crush washer like 2nd gen? Possible it’s no longer there. Also possible plug was cross threaded or perhaps not torqued down. Have you checked how tight it is?

Wipe it clean and see if it returns. If yes then they probably didn't use a washer. If no washer present, then the only way to correct this would be to drain the oil and do it right.

Having 2 gaskets on there instead of one?
    Having no gasket on there?
    Couple of my guesses...

Sometimes the gasket will stick to the pan. Most often is does, I should say.
So if the person just put a new gasket on the plug without knocking the old one off the pan.

OP if you’re gonna take it back to the local shop, you can pick up equivalent crush gaskets at the parts store. Could bring one with you just in case that’s the issue.

But really you’d be best served redoing it yourself and then take the photos back to the shop for a refund.

Feel pretty tight. I went under there to make sure it was snug, but I didn't want to over tighten.

Either missing a fresh gasket, or has two is my guess.

Yeah the oil leak comes back after the wipe off. I don't really see any clearance between the drain plug and the pan. Should I be able to visibly see the washer?

Yeah looks like they didn't install a crush washer. The good news here is this is not an urgent problem, more of a unnecessary annoyance. Get it corrected when you can but don't sweat your engine draining all it's oil.

If it bothers you, you can loosen drain bolt a couple of turns and wrap some Teflon thread tape (available at any hardware store) around exposed threads and retighten. This will seal it up until next oil change.

I just installed mine 2 hours ago. Expect a "help, I knocked off my fumoto valve!!!" thread in like a week.
