    People with Experience only please:

I have fox 2.0's (985-26-117) in the rear and one of the shaft seals failed awhile ago (6 months) Should I expect lots of internal shock damage from this? I am dropping them off to a shop this afternoon for a rebuild.

generic picture but is basically what mine looks like now

As long as there's enough oil to lubricate the piston stroke and there's still some pressure in the shock then it'll generally be fine to rebuild... I'd definitely be looking at a rebuild soon though.

Easy to rebuild at home, a seal kit is 12-15 bucks, shock oil is a bit more. I recommend Fox Red shock oil over any other. You just need to find a source for the nitrogen charge. There are a few youtube videos that are pretty helpful..

Also will need something like this to pull out the floating piston . Thread pitch is 1/4" 20 I believe.

I've rebuilt 1000's of motorcycle forks and for some reason i feel like im not tooled for this.. i think i have a foot or two of allthread in that size too. maybe i'll give it a go.

With further investigation.. the fox shocks are running 7w suspension oil now, unfortunately I cannot locate the cst rating for said oil so i think i'll try some COTs fork oil.

OP has a Performance series aluminum shock. The IFP isn't threaded.

If you're planning on doing the rebuild yourself, you'll want to isolate the source of the leak. If the main seal is leaking I'd be willing to bet you have some pitting on your shaft that tore the seal.
