I did some searching but can't seem to find the answer. I had the leaf spring recall done years ago, going from 3 spring to 4 spring packs.

I still got the letter from Toyota about the recall for broken springs puncturing the gas tank.

Does the recall apply to tsb replaced springs, or only the original 3 leaf (2+1) setup? Are there specific part numbers listed in the recall info that are to be replaced? The dealer wasn't sure if mine should be replaced since they'd been done as part of the tsb already.

I know, they all suck but...

    Thanks,
    Buggsy

Are you talking about TSB-0359-10, that upgraded you from 3 leafs to 4 due to a "harsh ride"? That was not a recall because Toyota was under no obligation to do that for every Tacoma.

Anyway, recall E02 does still apply to your truck either way, but there is a different part number the dealer will use for the replacement springs so that you keep the 4 leaf pack.

Yeah, I had the springs replaced under the TSB back in 2010. I was wondering if the newer recall still applied to the tsb spring pack, and it seems it does.

I doubt the new recall springs will be any better, but I can't afford aftermarket right now and I don't love the sound of the spring puncturing my gas tank, so I'll see if I can get them to do the recall.

    Thanks!

Ok. I just went through this. Dealer will fight you but there is a different part number for the recall springs if you have the tsb done. Make sure the dealer orders and installs the 04005-34404 “Canada/Mexico” springs. The recall technical guide specifically states that trucks with the harsh ride tsb should get the aforementioned springs, which are different from the 04005-34304 springs (the standard recall spring part number). Do not let them put on the 34304 springs. Mine were flat and quickly went into a negative arch within weeks. When the put the correct 34404 springs on -bingo, positive arch and a nice firm rear suspension with zero sag.

How do I know if mine is part of this recall or has already had it? Bought my '14 used in March. Leafs are pretty flat.

Flat leaves might be covered under the TSB but the recall was about not having enough spring clips on your packs, whether it was a 3 or 4 leafs. The danger is a leaf breaking and puncturing the fuel tank. Toyota may or may not upgrade your springs from 3 to 4. Not sure if the TSB or recall extend to 2014, I think it's only 2005 to 2011.

Depending on when you had the harsh ride TSB performed, the recall **may or may not** apply to you, despite their having sent you a recall letter. They send out letters based on model year, not necessarily as a consequence of anything having previously been done to the vehicle.

If you want to know if you qualify for the RECALL or not, you need to look at the clips that hold the individual leaves together. If there are SIX clips, then you do NOT qualify. This change was implemented in the middle of model year 2011. So as an approximate date for the TSB... if you had the 4-leaf pack installed after around January 2011 (-ish), then you probably do NOT qualify.

Thanks, mine were replaced VIA the TSB in or around 2008 or 2009 I think, shortly after I got my truck. The truck is in for frame replacement so I don't have it in front of me to look at the clips. I'll go check it out at the dealer when I get a chance though.

Part Numbers for the TSB (3+1) springs on it are:
    48220-04210-E LH
    48210-04570-E RH

I looked at a few threads and it seems like a lot of people have a battle to get the right TSB springs on it for replacement so perhaps I'll let them do what they do, then fight that as a separate battle after the frame stuff is all done. Not sure how best to go about it with them. I'm not even wild about this dealer so I might let them put on the old springs then take it to another dealer for the spring recall... if they don't do the recall at this dealer.

If you let them get all the way finished and then ask for spring recall, they'll probably be really pissed at you. If you ask them to do it *now*, then its free money for them, because they still get paid, but there's no labor involved.

I didn't even think of it like that. You've got a great point! I'm not wildly happy with my dealer, but there's no reason to be a Dick about it.

I'm hoping to drop off low mileage ucas and shocks to them next week so I'll bring I the documents and talk to the service writer about it then.

    Thanks for all your help!
