Got a question about my leaf springs...! I have a broken leaf spring on each side of my 2013 Tacoma. As you can see in the picture, its one of the middle leaf springs that is broken on each side. Is it possible to buy a replacement middle leaf, or do I have to purchase two entirely new sets for each side? Thanks!

That pack would need to be completely disassembled to replace that one leaf. Yes you could replace it. Is one available off the shelf? You could have a leaf spring Mfg. rebuild that pack for you but should you? I would just replace entire pack on both sides and avoid the problems that are likely to happen on the other side. Replacing the set also gives you the opportunity to evaluate your needs and pick a set that might better fits your needs.

You are doing something that destroys leaf springs. Suggest up grading to an aftermarket leaf pack. Also you can buy takeoffs (leaf pak) on TW.

    Thanks for the info!
Thanks for the info! I like the idea of picking a set that "might better fit my needs"! In this case I'd like to buy something new, something that might raise my truck a little in the back as well. But the google search for "leaf springs" is overwhelming. Is there a brand name or specific dealer that somebody can recommend that could narrow down my search? I have a mechanic that would be able to install it for me... Thanks again!

I have a cottage and carry a variety of things back and forth...but nothing exceptionally heavy so not sure how the leaf springs broke. The heaviest things i've carried is probably a 250lb motorcycle... Not sure. I'd love to buy a "heavy duty" set but have no idea how to go about tracking something like this down... Thanks.

Go to “forums”, and there is plenty of leaf spring discussion in “suspension”. Some TW economic favorites are Old Man Emu (OME), and General Springs. Prices go up from there.

Sound like you need something more for load and maybe some towing. Look for what a lot refer to as springs for Overlanding/Expedition/weight bearing-vs-desert or high speed handling. Companies such Deaver, All Pro, ARB/OME, Icon etc. Deaver has the U402 stage 1,2 and 3. Icon has a pack (RXT) that comes with the ability to tune load capacity. The OME have been popular but some have had issues with them. You should also consider the shocks as well. The spring may have been defective and you may have just hit one bump that de-cambered that side quickly. Looking at the second picture there looks like the bottom leaf has a very rough edge creating a stress point right where the leaf broke and very well could have been the reason it broke. One of the reason there are so many options is that so many people have had issues with the factory spring packs.

Another option is check your local Craigslist for take-offs or talk to one of the local shops that install lifts about getting take-offs. Lots of nearly new factory leaf springs floating around when people lift their new trucks.

Thanks for the info! When you say "spring" and "leaf", you're talking about two different things, right? When you say "spring", I assume you're meaning the vertical "shock" that is there on each side in addition to the leaf set...

My bad did not mean to confuse the terms. Spring or spring pack would be the assembly comprised of the individual leaves (leaves is probably the correct spelling not leaf) So you would be shopping for a spring pack set. A pack for each side. As far as shocks go, if you install a spring pack that provides lift you may need shocks that have more travel. Typically you do not want the shock to be what limits travel.

There are coil springs and leaf springs on the Tacoma suspension. On the rear there are leaf springs and shocks.

I called an extended family member who is a mechanic. He called a "spring shop" and they said they could rebuild my leaf springs for about $400CDN ($300 USD) and said they also didn't recommend going with "heavy duty" springs because it would be too stiff when not loaded. Said the whole thing could be done for just under $700CDN ($525USD) rebuilt. That's one option. Probably the easiest one for me. But I still like the idea of going heavy duty and raising up the back a bit...

I found the Old Man Emu EL096R with 2.75" lift at $413.32CDN but that's just one side... Both sides would be $826CDN ($700USD).

See if this spring shop has any complete new options for you. $525 rebuilt to me seems a little high.

$525USD is the total price including rebuilt and installation... You still think that's high?

Perhaps that's a fair price but I would make sure they evaluate the condition of pack as is first. Would this happen to be Birtchmount spring? Found them doing a quick google search. To remove rebuild and install is a fair amount of labor. The more I think about it the better the price looks. Rust must just be fact of life up there.
