Hi all. I’m distraught. My beloved 2010 was rear-ended by a moron while I was stopped at a red light. I’m being told by the repair shop that insurance may want to total it because they’re saying a new frame would be needed just to replace the leaf spring mount perch on one side. Does this sound right? I thought the mounts could be replaced and of course, I don’t have the truck here in the garage to just go and take a look.

Major bummer! Sorry man ! Off-road fab shops could probably fix it . They fix up rigs that have all sorts of damage from crazy trails and rock crawling all the time …. Insurance probably wouldn’t cover it though

I'd let them total it and buy it back, take it to an off-road fab shop like said above and let them weld on a new perch for a few hundred dollars, assuming the frame is straight and that you don't mind owning a Salvage title. Pocket the rest or use it for mods

    was thinking the same.

to the OP I've in the past been hit been paid for the damage and declined the repairs, taken that check to the bank and purchased parts and done the repairs. and like a few have said a set of hammer hangers sounds like a solid choice. my brother in law just got hit in the fender and damaged the hood and the grill, same thing took the cash replaced a few things and still a clean title vehicle.

Thanks for the input all. The shop is tellinf me they can’t replace just the rear leaf spring mount perch without replacing the entire frame… does that sound right? Because looking at photos online it looks like it absolutely could be replaced, and having to swap the entire frame does not make sense to me. Thoughts?

I put on Hammer Hangers. Make sure the frame is intact, then cash out and do it yourself. If the frame has to be reworked it will be okay as long as they get the hanger mount holes within factory spec (probably some thing like +- 5 mm) If they are good you can probably do this yourself; AND, it will be better than stock.

I cant remember, but I think the rear buckets have a rivet though the hanger, and if you're going to replace them them, grind them down or torch them out and do some paint prep and then think they bolt into factory spots.

They're probably saying this because the rear perches are riveted to the frame and typically not serviceable. Many of the aftermarket rear perches require these being drilled out like said above. You should confirm the frame isn't bent or twisted in this area and that it's just the perches.

These are riveted on and may have never been service parts. But if you can find a decent truck in a salvage yard with a damaged frame ... and you have a cordless angle grinder....
