I've done a lot of looking around in TW, and and still haven't found any definitive answers........

2020 DCLB with 3.5" AllDogs lift, 285/75/17s, w/5.29s. Engine and trans all OEM (tow package) and have built the truck to tow our off road trailer that is usually aeound 3k or so loaded.

I'm down to one of these two tunes, but every time I decide on one with a bunch of reviews, I get more input about the other.

    Anyone with experience with these?

    TIA

That's where I've been spending a lot of time, but didn't find any definitive answers about the differences between the two.
Some good info in a lot of those threads, but didn't see any comparisons.

it is better to ask in the tuning forum, threads than in the general 3rd gen forum. you will get tuners, testers, super users. and regular people. they can answer everything you desire. for the record, I have my own VF tuner hardware, and have flashed my 19 sport with everything from Orange Virus (the person who cracked the toyota ecu's, provided the hardware, and software for tuning), and have been with the KDMax tunes since Kreg, and Dave started. every tune, gets better and better. the latest V10, is a solid tune. good luck in your choice. Am I understanding that link correctly? OTT is claiming from their findings that most of the other tunes are not much of an improvement over stock for torque and horsepower? And KDMax Pro 10 is WORSE than stock?? What am I missing. I'm was also considering one of these two tunes. They say that the red line is stock and the blue line is KDMax Pro 10.0. Lot's more graphs in the link besides this one.

I can’t speak for OTT. But I read the graphs the same way.
What you are “missing” is likely throttle, and shift mapping.
Throttle response and shift calibrations can make a difference.

    FWIW, I like OTT.
    Not because of their tune.
But because of the guys themself.
Very nice and knowledgeable. Always willing to help me when I had a question.

I have and used both.... I prefer OTT. FWIW, I have a manual. People with AT's may have a different perspective.

It's the throttle and shift mapping that got me interested in a tune, not really the torque and HP, but I'm definitely not interested in losing power.

    A few.
I just got the OTT tune installed a couple days ago after having an older version of the KDMax from a couple years ago. Im happy with the results so far.
I would say find whichever tuner is closest to you and go with that one. If you have both options available close by maybe flip a coin.

Thanks for all the good info gents.

I've been in contact with David from OTT here in Omaha, and he seems like a nice guy for sure.

Also seems OTT is much closer to me that the closest/most viable KD Max tuner.

If those dyno results in that link are correct, flipping a coin makes no sense at all (at least to me). OTT makes it look like your choices are choose KDMax Pro 10.0 and lose HP and Torque (compared to stock) or chose OTT and gain HP and Torque (compared to stock). So long as they both do a good job of "managing" the transmissions shift points, etc., then why would anyone choose KDMax?

I'd like to see KDMax tuners weigh in on this, if they haven't already.

Here is the graph that OTT published showing their tune compared to several others. Since this thread is about KDMax vs OTT, it looks like OTT produces about ~20ft-lbs of torque and ~15hp more than KDMax.

From the link (their words not mine):

Best run from each manufacturer vs Stock

    OTT 9.0 - Blue
    YW Blackhawk Premium - Green
    KDM 10.0 - Yellow

    Stock - Red

I’m on kdmax 9.0, honestly i didnt notice a difference between stock and this tune, i was baffled by all the reports people have stated and my experience. The truck didn’t hold gear any better than before. I’m most likely switching to OTT tomorrow.

I have a MT and the low end torque increase up to 3000rpm with OTT is for real. It makes pulling my camper, where torque is really noticed, much easier for me. Best mod I've done so far.
