Does anyone know what is the largest battery (group #) which will fit under a Sport engine bay?

I believe 27F is the biggest one that will fit with your current tray. You can buy an aftermarket tray to get to a group 31 in there easy. Anything else would really have to involves some custom work, but a 31 is probably as big as you would ever need on a single battery anyway.

You can get a Battery Tray for a 2nd Gen with Tow Package and a 27F will fit.

Nope, plastic tray from the auto parts store, and I had to modify the mounting bracket to accommodate the taller battery and reroute the positive cable.

Interesting. My friend has a 3rd gen Offroad and he's got a 34 in it. He's using a tray from Off-Grid Engineering. Look it:

Why is battery acid over flowing from the service ports? I'm going to replace it with an odyssey 31M.

You may not need a new battery. Keeping terminal clean and free from acid will help the battery stay charged and it last longer

Optima yellowtop D34 is actually smaller than OEM, and with a CCA of 750 works well with winches.

Weird. OEM did it for me too. I ended up getting the X2 group 31. Haven't replaced tray yet so it sits on top of OEM tray for now. I did need to replace the tie down rods though. Love it!!

It's copper sulfate. Copper from the power coupling, lead from the battery, sulfur fumes leaking out from the non-sealed shitty stock batteries. Even when this isn't forming most of us are leaking the fumes (look at the top of your battery, see any variation in color near the cell caps? Guess why).

Replaced mine with AGMs. Phoeey on stock batteries.

    Hi Captqc,

Any tips for modifying the tie-downs so that this will fit? Longer tie-down rods? I rather go this route if you are not having any issues. Also for the battery tray. Do you remember where you bought it?

    Thanks!

Yup, I bought longer rods and cut out the rod that was fixed in place, also bought a cheap plastic tray from NAPA.
