I have started on the knock sensor replacement.
My coil pack seals need to be replaced. Is now a good time to do this?! Seems a dumb question but a smart move!! Ugh!

    Yes.

But are you talking about the spark plug tube seals, or the actual coil seals.
The coil seals are on the coil pack itself. I don’t change coil pack seals unless they get contaminated with oil or look “bad”.

I guess it’s the tube seals, there was a tiny bit of oil last time I changed my plugs.

So in saying yes, should I do sensors first? And then the tube seal gaskets? Cuz with the sensors I’m supposed to remove the heads, but I don’t want to do that if I don’t have to!
So I’m doing two jobs in one, just honestly not sure WHAT the heads have to do with the stupid seals for the coil packs!! Dumb!!
I guess I better find a cut out view of the motor itself…

The tube seals are part of the valve cover gaskets.
Those are easy. But you might as well wait to do them when do the knock sensor.
You’ll likely be pulling the valve covers then anyways.

The knock sensors are NOT easy. You don’t have to remove the heads.
But but you yo my need to cut the coolant bypass pipe bracket.
I think 1 person managed to change one of the sensors with out cutting the bracket.

If you search this site, there’s a few post bout what is involved in changing the knock sensors.

I’m working on the knock sensors now. I’m super relieved to hear that the tube seals are in the valve covers though! Thank you! I’m taking my sweet ass time doing the sensors tho, this is a huge job and I don’t wanna mess anything up! Love my truck!

If you need any help, let us know.
We’ll be happy to help if we can.

It’s best to torque them to spec if you can.
But “spark plug” tight is good enough.

Also be sure the sensor is oriented correctly.

Good luck doing this without pulling the heads. And not in a sarcastic way.

Here's a photo with heads removed, hopefully it might help show what's going on down there.

(Ignore the red circle, the picture is from a different writeup!)

The stupid harness clips are a pain even when you can get your hands on them. Good luck!

So okay, do I have to remove the housing water inlet thingy that coolant line is connected to? I’m so frustrated cuz everything I’ve watched never said anything about this! And my frickin belt too?!

This is normal. You will be happy when it's done though.

I'm not certain if the inlet needs to come off. You just need to get both crossover tubes disconnected at both ends, then cut the brackets so you can slide one out of the way. I think. Like I said, I pulled the heads. But I needed to anyway.

If you don't have one, a boroscope or inspection mirror would be helpful for this job.
