Been away for a while while I've been working on a Powerstroke project but I just wanted to pop in real quick and drop some discoveries.

For a while I was having issues shifting into OD. It would engage sometimes then other times it wouldn't. So when the engine light came on I ran a scan. Knock sensor code appeared. I thought... There's no way those two are related. I scratched my head, did a lot of research, and found out that it is indeed possible that bad knock sensors could cause the truck to go into "limp mode". Which would also explain the lack of power on acceleration.

Realizing the location of the knock sensors I decided to bring it to a shop to have them quote the job as I had other projects going on and didn't want to have to spend a weekend tearing into the motor to get to them. Shop quoted me OVER $3000 and said I needed a new transmission on top of that!! (Beldon Automotive, San Antonio) I told them to pound sand and give me my truck back.

After ordering the genuine Toyota sensors I was into it for about $130-ish. This includes plenum and manifold gaskets. However, it turns out that the sensors were fine. RODENTS had chewed the wires/connectors for the sensors!! So after returning the sensors and ordering connector pigtails instead, I was back down to about $36. She runs like a damn bat outta hell now! I won't go into the details about how I did the job at this point because I'm actually at work right now just killing some time typing this up. But if anyone wants some pointers, feel free to hit me up.

Moral of the story is, rodents suck and do all the work possible yourself. Youtube is your friend.

The sensors are wildly hard to change, you're fortunate it was just the harness, which it usually is.

Typically knock sensors wont cause limp, but it sounds like the wiring was actually shorting, which makes total sense.

Glad you got it figured out for cheap!

I actually removed both sensors to ensure they were in good shape. Yes, they are quite the challenge.
