Hey has anyone added L or T tracks to the back of their Kimbo? If so, i'd love some feedback on how you did it or where you got the materials. I want to add some to the back to I can get some crossbars for a snowboard rack and to find a way to mount my trasharoo bag.

    Hi Tiny Livin,

I mounted a pelican case with a joolca shower bracket inside of it to the back of my kimbo. I drilled some tiny pilot holes and used self tapping screws, I used 3M VHB (Very High Bond) Tape in between the kimbo skin and the pelican case and then added some sikaflex 221 to the screws, I had a friend help with making sure the case was mounted level. It is holding up well.

Just a quick update on the goalzero return - goalzero got a new unit back to me within two weeks (amazing considering the hazmat shipping hassle with the LiPo batteries).

Very happy with their customer service.

Another option for a snowboard rack is off the ladder. I was able to find a Thule 3 ski rack on Craigs List in great condition for $30 vs $270 depending on which brand you go with. No drill option and removable in the summer. May be a little awkward loading.

Eventually I would like to get a simple L shape hitch fabricated and mount the rack on top flat. Similar to this but with smaller steel box bar and raised above the tailgate. It would work with my swing out.

    Pro-tip for this winter:
Keep the covers off the bed until you are ready to get in.

We've noticed that if we keep the covers off, the heat can warm up the bed/sheets before climbing in. If you keep the bed all made up - it tends to retain the cold under the blankets and take longer to warm up after you climb in.

    Anyone else notice this?

Rain tested this weekend - no leaks, yay!!

too much work to do at the lake, so progress has been slow on the Kimbo.

Clear coat planned for the wood kitchen area this week and mounting the Camco fan.

Yes!! I was surprised how much cold gets trapped in the bed surface. It's fortunate that the fireplace will heat up the space so fast!

Took the thing on a ferry to the Oly peninsula this weekend. Roof racks held my 8'10" board just fine — a bit harder to load/unload than on my old canopy, but easy enough even in the rain.

Waking up to the view from above is just so cool.

And an aside — My Iceco VL35 fit the kitchen area nice and snug. The lid works as a bit of a kitchen counter for the time being, but looking forward to building a proper baltic birch counter around it. My initial slide-out fridge idea won't work with this fridge as it doesn't clear the rivets on the propane cubby, but thinking I'll need quite a few more trips to really figure out my needs.

We did the Oly Pen last summer - beautiful place for sure. Where did you end up? We tried to get up to Deer Park campground just outside of Port Angeles but some yahoo was running around in the area threatening park rangers with a long rifle and so it was all closed down.

Ended up in the Ho rainforest out at Copper Mine bottom, still a great spot but not up with views like you got.

We have the VL60 and it's found a spot on the floor and I'm in the process of building a bench seat over the top of it.

It’s been about a year in planning but finally completed the wood stove install. There were some big changes including switching the granite base to a tiled base with brass trim and mounting through the base to mounting against the wall.

The base was more of an aesthetic change whereas the mount location allowed for a better ride for the stove. It sits slightly above the tile about 3mm with high temp silicone closing the gap creating a shock pad of sorts.

Cutting the hole was easy compared to lining up everything including the mounts to the stove. I had to redo the back shield due to misaligned holes. The last part was sealing everything up with two braces on either side of the flue under the silicone flashing. I used plenty of high temp silicone, which gets everywhere, for the seal and self tapping roof screws. The top one was a pain due to the angle and flue being in the way. I may seal over the screws but not needed.

The first fire was perfect, worth the work, and easily made the bourbon taste better last night. Got the stove up to 400° in the beginning and lasted about 2hrs without loading. The heat was just right. With it being only 50° the fan came on as needed with the windows cracked. Looking forward to a full winter day below freezing.

Wow, bravo on switching the base out for the tile/wood/brass - looks great with the rest of the decor! Nice touch with the tools hanging in the entry. Looks like the silicone flashing is going to be a solid weather guard too. Congratulations on the build, now to sit back and enjoy it.

Really cool man, you put a lot of work into that stove install and it looks amazing. Stoked for you, also like the idea of redundancy in your heating setup, diesel and wood. Ready for the snow to start blowing!

    OME BP-51 suspension, 2”lift, sliders
I’m new to the group but have read (or skimmed) all the pages - great information and photos of all the great installs and mods for the Kimbo! We are really psyched to get out there in ours.
My Kimbo order is 177 with expected delivery end of Jan 2022 - but kind of expecting later than that.
My Tacoma is a 2021 TRD Off road - double cab long bed. I’ve added OME BP-51 suspension with 2”lift. (Really nice on the highway which was a surprise - off road with the compression backed off they are amazing) The rear leaf springs are the OME med Tacoma. I did not see any posts with tips with this suspension.
Are airbags recommended with this suspension? Since this suspension is adjustable I’m thinking that the compression settings will need to be set slower (stiffer) with the camper but would the air bag be a good call even though the new leaf springs are quite a bit stiffer than the stock ones? Tires are Goodrich Ko2 LT265/70 R17 but just the “C” rated tires. I hadn’t thought of getting the E tires and they are only 1500 miles old and took a while to get. Should I start the search for ten ply “E” Ko2s?
    Thanks!

That suspension system is pretty sweet. Heard a lot of good things. I have the medium duty OME leafs too. It will sit a little lower than level. I believe they level out around 450lbs or something. It’s definitely better than stock but you’ll want the airbags too. Won’t need much air and you can use a bike pump. You’ll be level or have some rake if you like. The Daystar cradles are a good idea too to let your truck stretch those rear shocks.

Go ahead and choose a solid E rated tire and sell the ones you got. You’ll want the added safety and not worry about the weight when you load up or mod it out. If all it was doing was going in a straight line on pavement, you would probably be alright, but it’s the stiffer sidewalls on the turns and off road that you’ll need. Heat buildup, roll, and load capacity all make going with an E tire a much safer option not to mention puncture resistance.
