I've been reading quite a few old threads about this, but I haven't seen anything for the 12, 13, 14, etc. Is there no more write ups about this topic or any fresh ideas? I know that many guys are still interested on a DIY anti theft solution.

A kill switch will only stop a limited # of thieves or joy riders. Not that that is bad, just saying.......... if a vehicle is really targeted, they'll just tow it off while looking all official.

The effectiveness of a kill switch is based on it's concealment to strangers and ease of access to the owner.

So what is it about the situation that requires 'fresh'?

Also, research on other car forums with vehicles much more likely to be targeted, like Miata.net and TwinTurbo.net, will find a variety of methods.

Different vehicles, but the concepts can often be applied to other marquees.

I know that! But that is not a reason to don't try all we can to avoid it. Even with a gun you can be stabbed in the back!

Yes, you are right! But part of the deal is the secret location of the switch! How good we can hide it is what really keep the efficiency of this mod, also, how well protected and hidden are the wires. I have the shipped key! But I want to do all in my power to make the mission harder to thieves. :)

I love tacomas as much as the next guy on this forum but we're not exactly talking about a Bugatti here. This isn't Italian job.

That sparked a memory. Something my dad did on a 69 Nova he had. Bear with me as I was young and don't remember the exact details but: Somehow or the other he rigged the negative wire from the ignition on the steering column to run through the cigarette lighter. When the lighter assembly was removed it would not get power to the starter. Or something like that. Basically he was cutting the negative contact along the "line". Put the lighter assembly back in and it would crank.
I know that doesn't help you much, but I was always impressed by that idea. That was way before anti theft systems.

I couldn't bypass the immobilizer on a Tacoma with every tool in my bench. I'd be caught if I tried to use the techstream to reset the key. I see no need for a kill switch.

If the keys are secure the truck is secure.

Best bet if you want to prevent theft it to use the ravelco, a little pricey but you get what you pay for when it comes to this kinda stuff.

You do know the key is chipped, and the code in the key needs to match the code in the ECU, or truck won't start. Shoving a slide hammer/screwdriver into the ignition lock won't solve that problem for the criminal.

Edit I've been made aware, the base model trucks, and some SR5 models do not have this feature.
