So with this entire quarantine going on I have been itching for a new project for the taco. I finally decided to order up the kicker hideaway to complete the small stereo upgrade in the truck.

However; this is brand new to me. As in I’ve never wired up a complete stereo.

I have been searching the forum for a step by step that I read awhile back but I cannot find it again. I’ve found some; but some were not well written (no offense to anyone. I just need deep details Bc this is a new area for me lol)

    here are my questions:

    - what supplies do I still need with the enclosure

-do I need a wiring kit still?

    - is a LOC required?

-can I run the kicker bass knob with this powered enclosure?

-what’s the best plug and ay option if any? I really don’t like working if I don’t have to Bc I’m just not knowledgeable. I plan to buy the harness below from Amazon. I’ve heard it’s worked well for others. But is there anything else I will need?

Going into a 2016 non jbl OR for reference. Thank you all in advance!

    I used this write up:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tpp4s-no-nonsense-guide-to-kicker-key-t-harness-16-19.642415/

If your main reason for doing this is going stir crazy, this is the best way to kill some time. I followed it to a "T" and the results were great! Removing the cover and the radio take all of 2 minutes, so the bulk of this project would be soldering the harness together.

I can't speak for the harness you're looking at in Amazon as I have no experience with that one.

**EDIT** Don't forget to check the delivery times on Amazon! Prime doesn't guarantee 2 day shipping at this crazy time...

I love my hideaway. Here's my 2 cents
    - the enclosure comes with straps. You drill screws to mount it. See pic below.
    - no LOC
    - it comes with the bass knob
    - I don't know about that adapter. I just tapped (one into two) a speaker to the hideaway white imput cable, black was ground and red was from the battery. It was that easy.

I also recommend live chatting with crutchfield and tell them you want a "complete kit." They will make you a cart, best prices and talk you through anything on troubleshooting.

I apologize for my post, after reading the last 2 replies I see you were referring to the Kicker Hideaway amp, while I thought you were referring to the Kicker Key amp (which I also highly recommend!)

I lied to your ass. You have to run a blue line up to an empty fuse so it knows when to turn off and stop drawing battery power.20200327_184524_HDR.jpg

I did actually contact them to get that cart set up! Just waiting for an email or call back. So I will hope for that soon! Thanks for those details though. Intentioned that harness Bc someone mentioned in another post it made everything just be plug and play and no splicing, just running the wire to battery. But; I feel that harness only helps with an actual amp; not a powered enclosure. I could be wrong though of course

haha that’s ok! Ones actually debating between the hideaway or this key amp. Went with sub first because the upgraded door speakers to me is plenty of “door” power. I now want the all around depth

Yeah harness for amps are helpful. Add the kicker key while we're on quarantine. I was SO disappointed with hideaway and new speakers, then I added a kicker key and it rocks so hard.

Had the kicker 8" self powered hideaway sub under my driver seat of my 2010 sport access cab loved it so much i plan to do the same when i get my next taco but will be the quad cab and the bass knob was up under dash in an inconspicuous place.
For the next taco i get in temped.to see about a 3 way componenet set up.
Woofers in front doors tweeters in factory dash location and mids fabricated into front A pillars.

I will for sure add the harness when I get the key amp. I haven’t found one on a good deal yet so I’ve been holding out. Once that key goes on a great deal I’ll be grabbing that too

How timely! I just installed my Kicker Hideaway yesterday and am quite happy with the results. I also have a 2016 OR non-JBL. Mine is an Access Cab. The following link lays out the procedure using two Metra (brand) connectors.
I suggest that you read the first two pages or so to get an understanding of the install.

Kicker hideaway- final upgrade to the $250(+) 3rd gen premium upgrade (+Kicker Key 180.4 amp)

EDIT: Props to @Exracer2 for the great write-up!

No but it did give a nice back massage on long drives and fornan aluminum 8" speaker cone definitely kicked hard when wanted.

Regarding the bass knob question yes it comes with one and comes in very handy.

I got mine througu best buy and had it installed but yes it comes withca bass knob.
If it hasn't arrived yet you can go to crutchfield.com and look it up and download the owners manaul for free. Eaiser than trying to find it on the kicker website
