Key won’t fully insert and lock or unlock driver side door. It works on passenger door and ignition and key fob locks and unlocks both doors. It happened when I returned to my truck which was parked in a public parking lot at a park so I’m wondering if someone tried to pick the lock and their tool broke off inside the lock. No indications of any problem in the past

Maybe someone tried to get into your truck with a screwdriver?

Use a very light squirt of air tool oil in the door lock to free it up. I like TriFlow like they use in bicycle shops

If that doesn't help and you can't fully insert the key it may need a new lock cyl.

Or, is the key teeth worn down? Try a spare key

grab your compressor, and get the keyway open, blast some air into the lock cyl) get some graphite into the lock. I've had to put the key in a few times and kind of wiggle it around a bit. usually it opens up. my wife's fob died once trying to take my truck to get something at the hardware store, and she was sure the locks were broke.

You could try opening the "gate" and then using a shop vac to "suck" any debris out from there.

They make an aerosol lube that comes with a small straw. You insert the straw into the opening and flush it out. One of the keyed locks on my cap stopped working. It took almost the whole can, but it started working again. I was amazed at how much crud came out of the lock.

WD-40 or something similar might work too.

I have the same problem. I suspect someone tried to use a screwdriver on it. The bigger surprise is there is no passenger door lock! That’s kinda lame!

I’m with you on trying a different key.
My key wore down and woundn’t unlock my door.
Stated the truck fine, but wouldn’t unlock the door.

This last week I put an entire (used) steering column on a 2002 Sequoia. Their key was so worn out the ignition wouldn't turn all the way off and they were yanking on the column shifter so hard it broke off.
$1,000 dollar job and we were lucky to even find a used column assembly with all the stuff on it. They had a spare key at the house they should have been using. Expensive lesson for those folks
