There’s a separate key for the tailgate.

I have a key for the tailgate only.........perhaps the original owner lost it or kept it.

2017s and up have the universal key in the fob. 2016s definitely need the factory tailgate key.

Call up whoever sold you your truck and ask them where the key is.

Go to a Toyota dealer and have them cut you a key. They can do it using the vin number of the truck.

Or a locksmith should be able to do the same

My apologies, forgot to look at what year you had. My dad has a 2016 and same thing with him.

Check under the center console, the key fits the pen holder nicely. They may have stashed it there.

Get ready to be told different things by dealers. One told me they would have to remove the tailgate liner, get the lock number, and laser cut a key with an estimate of $461. The other asked my vin number and made me a key in less than 5 minutes.....for free. Guess which one will get my future business.

I don't get this....I have a 2016 SR5 with 1 key. The key works in the drivers door (if I don't use the fob), works in the glove box, locks or unlocks the tail gate and is the ignition key. There is no 2nd or 3rd key for me.

These are the ones with the push button start. No actual key for the door.

Vin number doesn't always work. I ended up pulling my lock cylinder, & having a couple of keys made at a locksmith, $25.
