Inspired by this thread from @PB FAB, I decided to see if my '13 had something similar enough to work the same way.

So I popped open the cover, and low and behold, there was a similar looking attachment to my ignition. I noticed the wires running into it were on their own 'plug'. So I removed that instead of the disassembly method @PB FAB used.

    Success. No more dinging!

Photos show the fixture that's mounted on the tumbler case, and the wires running into the bottom. Next photo shows that unplugged. All I did was tuck the plug over and button it all back up. Completely reversible if you wanted to.

Of course I have no idea what 'all' 2nd gens look like, but if the chime annoys you, it's literally a 10 minute (or less) fix.

I've done this as well. It will prevent the truck from knowing when the driver side door is open, so you will no longer be able to turn the key fob beep on/off. I solve that by just ripping out the buzzer in the engine bay.

There are two screws that are behind the steering wheel. Rotate your steering wheel to reveal and remove them. Then you'll be able pop the bottom half of the cover off. It's tricky but you basically pull it out and down.

Not sure about that. :notsure: The 'door open' on the dash still illuminates. But of course it does do that with or w/o the key in place anyway.

Haven't tried/not worried about that. On our '12+ models that's a techstream chore anyway, right?

If I don't want it to beep when I unlock the door, I just use the key. :D

I stand corrected. I remembered that my dome light does still come on when I open the door. So it's another factor that affects the keyfob beep mod then. I think it disables the ignition's knowledge of the door being open.

Excellent, i fumbled around with that plug and couldn't get it to release, I pulled mine apart on a job site and found the tab and was able to unplug the wire harness on the 17.

You might want to edit your thread to show the change in method?

Thanks for this post! My 2nd most favorite mod to my Tacoma. Super easy too. The release tab for this plug is on the right side. Just press down with your finger and gently pull down on the plug.

just for an "FYI" if you do this mod, you will not be able to program a new key. i found out that when my key was so worn out it would not "beep" when in the ignition. so just make sure to plug it back in before programming a new key.

Not really sure what you are trying to say here. The 'key in' chime has nothing to do with the airbags. At all.

The method I posted does not impact the door ajar feature, nor does it impact the dome lights.

As far as the seat belt goes, mine still chimes, but that's not what this thread was about.

I recently did this on my 2011 DC, but now I am noticed that there is a flashing light on the dash all the time, even when I shut the doors and lock the truck... Photo below, anyone know that this means? Is this bad, seems like it could wear the battery out by continually blinking...

But it quits when the key is in the ignition, correct?

Pg 77 of your owners manual says............

The indicator light flashes after the key has been removed from the engine switch to indicate that the system is operating. The indicator light stops flashing after the registered key has been inserted into the engine switch to indicate that the system has been canceled

Based on that, it should have been flashing all along under the conditions you describe.

Don't have an owner's manual? Here are the PDFs of all of them for 2011.
