Hello i just bought a 2017 tacoma this week and the key fob is not locking or unlocking the doors when you press the button. i brought it to the dealership and they replaced the battery in the key fob (still wouldn't work) and then they tried programming a completely brand new key (still wouldn't work). the key turns in the ignition just fine, the car runs like normal but when you click the lock/unlock button, nothing happens. they spent about an hour trying to program both the used key and the new key at the dealership but ultimately said they couldn't figure out what the issue was and that i would need to bring it back at a later date so they can analyze it more closely. Has anybody had this issue before? i'm guessing it's something with the computer?

the manual key that sticks out of the key fob works fine when you unlock/lock the car manually so i don't think its an issue with the physical locks

Potential electrical interference (like a dealer installed GPS tracker that can mess up wiring), or possibly a blown fuse.

Did you find a solution for this? My 2016 just started exhibiting weird key fob behavior: the fob will lock but not unlock. Sometimes, if I press lock first, I can then get unlock to work, but it's sporadic. I tried my (never used) spare with similar results. I'll replace the batteries, next, but have seen enough key fob posts to be concerned.

I had a similar issue with my 2016 4Runner. The little motor inside the passenger front door latch had failed and needed to be replaced. Try manually locking one door at a time and then pressing the button. For example, I would manually lock the passenger front door and then hit the button on my fob and it would work. If I didn't manually lock that door first, the fob wouldn't lock the car. Do one door at a time and if the fob works all of the sudden, that is your failed latch. The latch as a whole is expensive, but the little motor inside is only 7-8 bucks on Amazon/ebay.

Have you tried pushing the panic button on the remote? If that feature works at least you know the remote and computer module recognize each other. If the panic alarm button doesn't work then its time for old fashion diagnostics starting with fuses, pinched - broken wiring, etc.

I have has this happen 2 times on my 16 OR . This last time was after having my tires rotated and the TPMS redone for moving the tires . Afterwards , the fob would only unlock the drivers door and the rest of the door locks made a sound but did not unlock . I did the trick of holding the lock and unlock buttons for 7 secs , several times . Note that the dash will show that it has changed by showing either 1 or all four doors open . This did not fix the problem at the time . The next day all was back to normal . So ? I guess this is something that goes away on it's own lol .
