Just comparing to some of the other vehicles I've owned I'm trying to figure out if there's something wrong, or if Toyotas just have terrible range on their key fobs. I can only unlock/lock my Tacoma if I'm within like 20', this is an H-key btw.

Depends on how the wind is blowing. You have a longer distance if your truck is downwind of your fob.
    Shorter upwind.

Gravity can also play a part. You have a shorter range if your truck is up hill from you vs. it being downhill. :rasta:

Mine (H-key also) is far. Uncomfortably far at times since I sometimes worry accidentally hitting a button.

We had a car that would only work when within arm's reach. I suppose as long as it actually works, it was fine for us?

If you hold the key fob to your body it uses your body as an amplified antenna for a little extra range.

Mine barley works from about ~4-500' with a direct line of sight. That's using my crane as a "antenna"

Mine works from a few hundred feet away in open parking lots. I have noticed something weird. When I back in to my parking spot at home tail facing the I can house I can lock/unlock from inside the house and around the corner on the side porch separate by brick walls. If i pull in to the spot, head toward the house I need line of sight either direct or from a window for it to work.

Of course this is another good reason to back in.

Any doodads added like a dash-cam? Some have noticed a drastic reduction after install.
Mine works fine, far enough I've never had to actually test range. I had a remote install added from dealer (just to cya, I'm sure I over paid), but their shop but handed me a key ring with two aftermarket fobs, saying they work much farther away, and the Toyota ones just don't go as far as other mfgs. My factory fob still works, so I don't even carry the extras.

Mine is maybe 30’ max. Sometimes it won’t work until I’m within arms reach.

Mine has issues with Meso 3rd brake light. When then cargo lamps are on, I basically get no response from the fob. When they go out, it seems to work. Nothing I've really looked Into though

6,494 miles (distance from Beijing, China to Phoenix, AZ)............

Alright, not really, though I did start my truck from Beijing (2018, pre-rona) while it was sitting at the airport in Phoenix. Was pretty cool. I have a remote start app linked to my phone.

I never think about the range as I always keep me key in my pocket and just touch my door handle.

Shits sensitive these days. There's times on road trips, I avoid the Taco Bell, I'm afraid the alternative fuel source will throw a CEL if cabin isn't vented properly.

My first dash cam took out not only my key fob but my radio reception as well. I had to tear it out and put in a different camera and wire harness before that went away.

I never really tested my range. Few hundred feet. I usually use the handle sensor though. I also dont have an H-Key. :anonymous::anonymous:

I have recently installed the dash cam that was in my old Liberty. I never seen any issue with it then. Now it's wired to the power outlet circuit so it's only on in the run or accessories position. It's an Auckey DR02

Seems they just kinda suck haha. Mine's Bone stock other than door speakers and a dome light.

Checked with my 2018 DCLB when exiting work today. The key fob worked from at least 60 paces, well over 100 feet from the truck.

I've noticed it isn't that great as well, even when using my body as an antenna of sorts. Then again my last truck could be started with the fob through several concrete walls. I get 2 rows away in the parking lot and my Tacoma key won't reach.
