Key fob battery? What and how to start with dead battery

Several videos and web sites and Amazon shows two sizes of batteries for the Tacoma 2016-2022 & 2005-2022.
Ok the two sizes show is CR2016. & CR2032. What is the correct battery size?

How to start your Tacoma truck with push button start? Simple place the fob on the button with the Toyota logo on the button, remove and push the start button.

 

How to find out the correct size: Open the keyfob casing up, remove the battery, look at it and write down the number on it. WaaLaa. It ain't rocket science man.

 

I use a CR2032 in my Fob which has a higher capacity (mAh).

 

They are both 3v, the 2032 is about 1mm thicker and it will last longer.

 

Before I open my key fob, wouldn’ t it be smarter to know the size before you open the fob? Then purchase the battery. So I went on line to find the size.
It was confusing , Ok maybe the CR 2016 fit as well as the CR2032 May fit. Make sense to buy the longer lasting battery.

 

Both CR2016 & CR2032 are the same size and can be interchangeable. Both are 3volts.
CR2032 is just thicker .

CR2016 90 mAh - 6 hrs
CR2032 240 mAh - 10 hrs.

AA, AAA,AAAA, are all different sizes, like C & D batteries.

I do know what they”S” stands for - Smart “S”. Lol

 

I literally just changed the battery in both key fobs yesterday. 2032 is what you want. They are not real hard to change, just be careful. Or you can go to AutoZone or any auto parts store and buy the batteries and have one of the guys there change it for you. 2 batteries is about $10.

The size of CR batteries is the numerical designation.

A CR 2016 is 20mm in diameter and 1.6mm in thickness.
A CR 2032 is 20mm in diameter and 3.2mm in thickness.
A CR 1025 is 10mm in diameter and 2.5mm in thickness.
A CR 3032 is 30mm in diameter and 3.2mm in thickness.
A CR 2025 is 20mm in diameter and 2.5mm in thickness.

I keep a spare battery for all of my fob operated vehicles in a plastic bag somewhere accessible to the exterior of my vehicle.
